Does Sidi Control The Retail Price Of Their Boots?
04/24/13 7:38 AM

OK, I'm looking at replacing my Sidi Vertigo boots with a new pair of Sidi ST Air boots, everyone has them listed at $395, never a penny more or less. This looks suspiciously like price fixing, i.e. Sidi not allowing the retail outlet to charge what they want.... which benefits all customers with competitive pricing. Anyone else notice this with Sidi products? Dainese seems to work the same way, maybe it's an Italian thing?

Many companies do this these days. The retailers can't advertise lower prices. For example, my local dealer sells GoPro cameras. He has to mark them with the 'list' price, but if you ask he can sell them cheaper. Now that GoPro is selling at walmart, things have changed a bit.

I'd call a few of the places and ask for their best price, they may be able to do better over the phone.

Good advice, I wondered about that.

Just bought a set of brand-name floor liners for my truck. The dealer sells them for below MSRP, but the company will not allow the use of their name in his advertisements. So there are probably SIDI dealers out there selling for less than retail but are in the same boat. Must be agreements between manufacturers and retailers regarding how they can do business.

May have to rethink buying the Sidi's. I've been trying since November to get a pair of replacement soles for my Vertigo's and had placed an order with Motorcycle Superstore, the Sidi Distributor that carries the replacement soles. They just emailed the soles are no longer available from the manufacturer. If they will not support the product with replacement parts I will not buy anymore Sidi boots. The Vertigos soles lasted less than a year, at $300 a pop I can't afford to replace boots every twelve months, especially since the uppers are still in excellent condition. The replacement soles were $20 which made the boots more attractive, so this is a real blow.

This is a well known issue with Sidis, very soft rubber in the soles, does Alpine Stars make replacement soles for their boots?

Sidi's don't want to end up at Walmart, so in some brand/trademark positioning champaign, they are sold for MSRP only, even if quietly they can smuggled out of the store for less. Your best chance at a cost savings are older sytle boots that have not sold and thus can be had at a "discount"

Kruz, maybe send a request straight to Sidi, explain your troubles and who knows you might get a free set of soles. I would if I owned Sidi. Make sure to include your size just in case. click here Kruz . Let us know how they respond!

Generally speaking, i have only worn on the bike. I don't go grocery shopping or to work wearing my boots. I've only worn my A*** maybe 7-8 times however they have been through two track days (where I did have to walk between pit and classroom facilies + track time). Also a few all day sport riding excursions on Vortex rearsets which are so sharp they hurt your hand if you squeeze them.. Except for some dust, the A** soles look brand new. The rubber of the A** soles feels harder than athletic shoe soles. I don't know if they are replaceable.

I highly recommend the white.

I called the U.S. Sidi Distributor yesterday, the replacement soles are not discontinued but have been on back order for almost four months, sounds like Sidi needs to get their act together. When they come in I'll order about 10 sets.

I went ahead and ordered the Sidi ST Air Boots from Revzilla at $395 less $5 in Zillabucks......lol...so $390. I didn't want to call up all these places and try to get them to knock a couple of bucks off, too much of a hassle.

What the retailers need to do is place the words "Call for Pricing" where the price normally goes. This alerts the customer that he can get them below list.

Rook, I wear my Sidis everywhere, will not ride down to the corner store without full protective gear. Probably ride well over 300 days a year down here in Tejas and I'm on my bikes way more than I drive a car so the Sidis are getting a lot of wear. I checked into Alpine Stars and from owner reports, their soles don't last any longer than Sidis and they are not replaceable, soles wear out the boots go into the trash.

I waited about 8 months to get my Galfer rotor from Spain. I think there's a little more laid back pace in Europe.

I went ahead and ordered the Sidi ST Air Boots from Revzilla

You got white, right?

Kruz, There are marketing stipulations between sellers and manufacturers.

I frequently shop http://www.motorcyclegear.com/ for gear. There are often items on their web site that have no price listed. Motorcyclegear.com has explained it as they can't advertise a price lower than some agreed to point. They used to, and maybe still do, have an automated email system that would send you the price that they couldn't list on their web site.

I see the boots you purchased are the same $395, but at motorcyclegear.com you get a $20.00 credit on your next purchase, and free shipping too...

For an example of their inability to post the price on screen, check out the Jo Rocket pants....
