How much Should I pay
08/24/12 6:43 PM

Good Tidings to you all,

Okay I was here around 8 months ago and asked if the zx14 was right for me. Now alot of you suggested for me to wait and so I did. So long story short I bought my Zx6r at 4900 miles last September and just sold it two days ago at 23,700 miles. Most of those have been highway and a few mountain trips to Blue Ridge Georgia. Okay so I think when it comes to skill and mature I am more than ready for the upgrade the only questions I do have is are these:

I went to cyclenation in Mcdonough yesterday and saw a 2009 ZX14 with 18,000 miles they wanted 8600 for it and that is not the out the door price so overall it would be aroun 9000. Now blue book value for one in excellent condition is 8000 so how would I go about negotiating with them? I already have secured my financing from USAA so I am good in that regard. All I need to do is make one phone call and a check will be overnighted. I just don't feel as if that is a fair price for me as a consumer. Plus when I talked to the sales person he really new nothing about the bike. I asked him if it had a steering dampner (I knew it did but I was just testing him) He told me no and then I showed it to him and he looked a little emberrased.

I also called around to WOW motorcycles today about an 2008 Zx14 that had 21000 now on a 2008 the Blue book is 7700 they wanted 7900. I told them I would offer 7700 out the door and he told me that this won't include taxes and he said the final price would be 8600. Now I think because of the mileage I can talk them down even more.

Or would it be easier to get the check from USAA and then start shopping? I mean it is just like cash right? I just don't feel as if I am getting fair prices on these bikes. Another question would be should I wait to the winter time like Novemeber/Decemeber to negotiate again? What do you guys think?

Cash is your best friend when it comes to negotiating.Next is patience to find that right deal and be ready to jump on it. I just bought an all stock'06 with 14,000 miles in Atlanta for $6,000 and rode it back to San Diego. After the plane ticket, gas, food, overnight lodging, etc cost I still saved a little money from what I would have paid in SoCal for the same bike but the adventure of taking a cross country trip on the big Ninja was priceless. This time of the year is also tough for negotiating prices especially with the stealerships. Here in a few months you can get a much better deal.In this economy have cash in hand and be ready to walk if it doesn't suit you. You're in control. Cycle Trader,E-Bay,Craig's List,Yakaz all resources are good. Good luck on your quest,
Mike

I second that...wait 2 more months and the price will drop $1-2K. Dealers get desperate as the season wraps up and the new models come in, especially in this economy with close to 9% unemployment still. It's still a buyer's market, plus you're military so you are their prime customer...make them dote on you.

Craigslist my friend. Plus, give it another month or two like runr said and you will see the price drop. If at all though, I'd avoid buying from a dealer. Bikes will ALWAYS be around. I got my 08 zx14 with 1628miles for only 7700 about a month ago. Just keep on searching and you will find something better.

Yeah I almost had a buy but the deal fell through turns out the guy didn't even have the title in his name yet so the bank wouldn't finance until he changed. He wanted a $500 deposit to get it changed but I said no. I just don' t want get cheated at a dealership (At least not as much lol) It is just the waiting that sucks. I mean I'm pretty sure the dealerships in Georgia will becoming more desperate next month. But does anyone have any haggling tecniques with a used Motorcycle? Also on these bikes in particular would you buy one that has over 18000 miles? And what price would you pay for say on 2008-2009 model?

Keep patient, and your eyes open. I found my 06 on Craigslist, full Yosh system. PC111, new tires, new chain and sprockets, fresh tune up and fluid change- $4900.
So, there are good deals out there.

Negotiating? Decide what it's worth to you and make the offer. Be prepared to walk if they balk.

I have an 06 with pipe pc3 corbin throttle meister 16K near perfect condition and I'd ride it to you. They aren't THAT rare.
