Clip-on's/raising rear end for more aggressive riding position
05/17/12 2:45 PM

Anyone have or seen after-market clip-ons that LOWER the bars? I know Rizoma sells them, but I don't see how they would replace stock ones as far as fairing clearance. Also I know most lower their rear end, but I'd like to raise mine a bit, anyone done that? I'm coming from an MV Agusta and I'm tall, so I love the extra room on ZX14, but would like a bit more aggressive riding position if possible.

Remember, changing the geometry will probably hurt handling.

Depends of what you do!

If you raise the rear, you'll be able to turn/steer quicker and the front will be more planted in corners. Dropping the bike would definitely influence the bike in a negative way but if you raise the rear a little more, you should be fine. IMHO, the best way to do it is to get a quality after market shock with height adjustment and rebuild the forks with stiffer springs and valves, then you'll be able to adjust/compress the fork a little more without them bottoming out. Also add a 55 rear tire and you should be good to go.

Yes it's expensive, but worth it!

I don't know of any suspension links that raise the rear. Perhaps you could have a machine shop make you some. I might be interested in that too.

Dont know about lowering bars, A double bubble screen makes tucking at speed wonderful though! Dont think there is room for lowering...,

I have a Penske shock with adjustable ride height. Went up 1 1/2" out back and actually slid the forks 'down' in the triple clamps (roughly 3/8ths") for more ride height in front for added cornering clearance. Also heavier spring rates and revalved forks give Me exactly what dragking describes...,Very different bike than stock.
When hanging off at track days, actually had to pull knee in ...,lean angle is amazing compared to stock!!

Heres some old photos from back in my track daze...,

removed lowers to save them from scraping

The mid pipe and sight glass did scrape though...,kickstand, shifter and radiator hose clamp ground on the left side...,
Wore out several toe pads as 'feelers'.

Thanks Skiffman! Looks like a Penske shock may be the way to go on the rear height. I found their low-end model with adjustable ride height for around $600 online, not too bad.

a 55 height tire is a bit higher-only about 5mm more off the ground but I can feel it when new.

No problem Todd. i suggest finding out who does the suspension tuning for racers in your area and spend a bit more and work with them. Unless you are well versed in adjusting it yourself. Theres a good video called twiddling knobs...,
