You are going to get a lot of answers as there are a lot of ways to do it. I have lowered 7 or 8 sportbikes besides my ZX14R and all the same way. I have several two by fours laid across the rafters in my garage. I have a heavy tow strap wrapped around the boards with the hooks hanging down. I attach a come-along to the hooks and two small straps to the rear frame of the bike. Hook it all together and it is a breeze with no chance of tipping over the bike. You can raise or lower the bike at will to make the old links come off easily and raise or lower it to adjust for the new links. Absolutely fool proof. Not the only method for sure but easy and safe.
