Just a reminder. Can't even go out for breakfast without someone f'in with my bike while I'm inside.
I was at Newcomb's Ranch in the Angeles Forest. Never had this type of thing happen to me as far as I know.
Someone took a key or small tool and tried to pop up the cowl by inserting the tool in the small space between the top of the rear fairing and the cowl. Obviously not a 14 owner as they'd know it doesn't just pop off. They must have thought they could mod' it to use on another bike?
Going back a couple weeks, I was waxing the bike and noticed these 3 nearly identical chip marks. They were perfectly in line and spaced about 2" each apart. First I though how could some dirt or something chip the bike like that? And with my leg in the way it seemed nearly impossible. I looked closer and saw the same marks were also under the edge of the cowl so it's obvious it was someone putting something in between and twisting.
Fixed it the best I could with some gloss black paint. Using a toothpick to place paint in each damaged spot didn't look much better. So I ended up filling each spot, waiting about 10 minutes to semi-dry, then lightly wipe off excess paint with a slightly damped rag with thinner. Looked "good enough" but still pisses me off. Timing was great to first see it. You go out to the garage to buff up your baby and then you see that crap. Makes you want to not bother.
Also pisses me off when I think about the people around me at these places. We're supposed to be "buds" in a sense. We share a passion. Then you realize some of them are doing things like this. Funny thing is, I know for sure what day it happened and this one guy came up to me to say "nice bike" and asked how I liked it. We talked several minutes. He could watch me go inside and knowing who owns the bike, go over and tamper with it. So I may have even spoke with the f'er.
Anyway, just be aware of where you park. As if you weren't aware already.
