buy extended warranty?

I ordered a blue ZX-14r today. I'm going to sell my CBR954rr that I've had for ten years. I'm really looking forward to this bike. My dealer is offering me the 5 year extended warranty for $550, discounted from $750. Should I buy it?

In my opinion, extended warranties are a way for dealers to make extra money. I think you have to ask yourself how long do you plan on keeping this bike, depending on your answer you might be ok just using the factory warranty. btw, welcome!

Hey Suedez

I can only speak from experience and I say spend the $550....In 2009 I tossed a rod right through the engine block on my 07 and if I didnt have the warranty I would have been shit outa luck!!! The repair cost my Kawasaki Dealer $8000 so $550 is well worth the money.

The Fact that you kept your old bike 10 years, it only makes sense that you get the extra warranty!

Congrats on the new Bike your gonna love it.

It depends.Snuffy blew a rod so that was worth it.I bought the warrenty on a new ZRX 1100.Nothing went wrong.Alot of Kawasakis are proned to blow #3 rod bearing.If you turbo it or do motor work.I'd want to know what voids the warranty.If what you plan to do voids the warranty I'd be careful.It's your bike.Find out if the 5 year is tied to mileage.$550 doesn't sound bad if you can put a pipe on it.

Hey Guys
I was street riding on a 95 degree day took a turn around 80 MPH kicked up a gear coming out of the turn and BOOOOOM!!!
I had a megaphone exhaust and pc3 on her when it happened and I thought I was gonna have a problem and the dealership covered it.

The warranty is worth it so - Just do it! Besides, $550 to cover your 12k+ investment, sounds like a bargain to me! Congrats on the new ride!!!

Got to help put the bike together out of the crate Saturday. Bought the 5 year warranty for $550. She is now broken-in with about 400 miles and the first oil change at 120. Used the break-in philosophy of "ride it like you stole it" which is summarized at http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm This bike rocks!!! Rode the Texas Hill Country "Twisted Sisters" for close to 300 miles yesterday. It feels like I'm back in an F-16! The only thing that wasn't comfortable were my hands, so... the first mods I'm planning on/have ordered for now are a cramp buster throttle doofer, some slip on grip puppies and a Kayoka throttle lock. I am really enjoying this forum. Your collective knowledge is awesome - thanks!!
