Tire shopping
03/29/12 11:37 AM

Hey all,

I'm currently running Dunlop Q2's on my 07 which have proved to be quite nice, however, they havent lasted long at all. I put them on last fall and the front tire is already begining to cup. I ride quite frequently and would like a tire that performs in the corners but lasts longer than 3-4k miles. Ive been looking into the Michelin Pilot series. Has anyone had experiance with them? Any other suggestions of other tires to look into?

Thanks!

I have the 2CT on the front and, believe it or not, a Tomahawk retread on the rear. I have a Tomahawk on my ZX10R and have put many thousands of miles of fast 2- up on it and still have tread left. It has never slipped, even with the peg on the deck. I have taken one ride so far on the 14 with the Tomahawk and it handles great. They put more rubber on the crown of the tire for longer life at the expense of a little added weight. I use the T3 which is for sport riding.

BT-016s are well liked but I doubt you are going to get more miles out of them. If you want a good sport riding tire like what you have on there, I think you have to live with the fact that they aren't going to last long.

I always have gotten at least 6K miles on mine (BT-016s) but that's me or our roads or something. Helps with bike expenses, whatever it is.

I usually change mine as a pair. OEM BT 014L Batlax 4200 miles. They came with my o8 ZX-14. Michelin Pilot Roads, three sets each at over 11000 miles. No longer available. Michelin pilot 2CT 5400 miles. Metzler M3 6300 miles. My new ZX-14 came with Metzler M5 and @ 4290 miles the center of the tread is showing 3/32 on the rear. All of these tires are adequate for the road. I ride 12,000 miles per year so I like them to last. Nearest tire shop 80 miles up the road.

I’m in love with the road pilot 3’s and I get a little over 8,000 out of a rear and 14,000 out of the front!

Yeah, I'm seriously considering the pilot road 3's at this point.

When I wear out my last set of Pilot Roads on my 08 I was going to go to the Pilot Road 3, but looking how things are going with the Metzler M5 on my 2012 I think I would go with them. They run with a different technology no one does it like they are doing it. They also have a touring version M6 using the same tension technology.
