Got adjusted
03/25/13 2:20 PM

So, I took my bike to Catalyst Reaction to have them set up my suspension for fast 2 -up that I do. The front was way too soft, 50mm sag, the rear with the heavy Race Tech spring wasn't so bad. After about a half hour of twiddling and adjusting they got the bike handling real good. The tech there told me that in his opinion, ZX14 forks have a pretty good set up and didn't really recommend any cartridges as a necessity. Oh yeah, they also noticed I have a leaking fork seal....Aaaaarrrrrggghhh!!! Oh well, more work and more money...

I did the fork seals on my ZX9, it looked WAY harder to do in the manual then it actually was. The seals were only like $15-20 and another $30-40 for fresh oil, took a couple of hours and all was well in the world.

Yeah, but I don't have a garage anymore and my storage unit has my 83GS750E and my YSR/YZ in it so I don't really have anyplace to work on it. Plus, i used to work as a mechanic at a couple of shops and for some reason I can't get all fired up to do the maintenance on my own bikes anymore, even though I know most of the mechanics at the shops around here suck. I know, I'm a slacker....Luckily I know of a couple of good techs, so overtime, here I come!

WFO, I think the sag in the front ended up being around 30mm. Not sure about the back since he set it up for both of us on the bike. The guy worked fast and didn't tell me too much. He did have a way cool wrench for adjusting the preload spring though. Made it look almost easy.

Hagrid, why I'm shocked. I NEVER break the law. I only do 55 on the freeway and leave the tags on my mattresses. The tool was about a foot and a half long with a half round end with a hook to catch the lock nut slots on each end. it also was offset about an inch from flat. He just took the left side heel plate off and easily loosened the lock nut and adjusted the preload collar. Took him about 5 minutes. Bastard!
