Anyone Have Sidi ST Boots?
05/09/13 8:11 AM

I'm curious, I recently bought a pair of Sidi ST Air boots to replace my well worn Sidi Vertigos and I am having a lot of issues with missed shifts all of a sudden.

The Vertigo is a much softer boot, more supple or flexible and I don't recall ever having a problem with missed shifts with those.

The ST is a whole diferent animal, it has the external ankle protector and there just isn't a lot of flex in these boots, great for ankle protection but lousy if you like to hit your shifts with any regularity.

Anyone else have these and do they eventually break in? I've literally been wearing mine everywhere, all day for about a week and the situation hasn't improved much, they're still pretty stiff.

Kruz, I also had a simular problem when I changed from one brand to Alpinestar boots.
The section on the boot where the gear lever touches was thicker on the new boots so when I changed gear the lever wasn't droping down far enough to select for the next gear, so when I was trying to change into the next gear I was in fact trying to put it into the same gear that I was already in.
So I just adjusted the gear lever up one notch and now it is perfect.

Got the Sidi afterburner quarter cuts. I bought them Kruz because the full boot destroy my feet!

Try that. I have a similar problem ...mostly when using the quickshifter. I will not be adjusting the turnbuckle on the shift linkage. I'm just taking the whole knuckle off teh shift shaft and turning it forward one spline so the shift lever will be lower(this is with rearsets, OEM shift lever direct to shift shaft will be opposite of course). There will be less play (air) between my toe and the shift lever so I should definitely feel the lever stop into gear when I shift up.

I've decided to leave all of my shift linkages alone as they were working perfectly with the old Vertigo boots. I think more break in is necessary and so I'm helping them along by folding the boots to stretch the leather of the uppers for more suppleness. Seems to be working as they are getting easier to walk in, acid test is this afternoon when I take the ZX-10R out.

Bingo, no missed shifts tonight on my ZX-10R. Folding the boots up tightly and working the leather uppers back and forth seems to loosen them up. Not as easy shifting yet as my two year old Vertigos but a great improvement. Another week or two and they should be good as gold!
