Paint the inner fairings too?
03/29/12 3:31 PM

Just want some opinions.
I'm going to have the fairings painted (Foreman grills). I always thought they should be painted anyway.
I've never had anything painted and I don't know anyone local. I found this site http://www.rushbikes.com/ and he said he would paint the covers for $50 each plus the cost of Color-Rite. I assume he'll do a good job which is my main concern over cost. I'm not sure what the Color-Rite cost is yet.
Now I'm trying to decide if I want to paint the inner covers too. The inner covers match the seat cover so they look OK but I think the covers may look better if they match the bodywork. If I do paint the inners then I'll probably end up re-covering the seat in something darker 'cuz it will look too "gray" all by itself. The seat isn't a real concern right now.
What do you think? Is painting the inners too much or an improvement? I can't decide. I assume he'll charge about the same price since the inners are similar in size to the Foreman's. He does a lot of "wild" painting so I should be happy with a simple basic paint job to match the rest of the bike. Thanks for any input.

ninjamaster is a painter. He said he would be able to do my Forman fins a while back. If you do not know this rushbike guy maybe give ninjamaster a PM and ask if he would do it.

also if you are just wanting a OEM repaint to repair damage from your off, check the price of OEM Formans from your dealer. Mine was hot to sell me couple Midnight Sapphire Blues for $94 last summer.

You might want to get opinions on coloright paint match. From what I read on bikeland.I hear the colors are NOT good matches for certain colors.

Also, I hear this come up from time to time at bikeland. Apparently Coloright is a mismatch on Candy Green and some other colors. I can tell you, when the topic of OEM matching paint comes up. Coloright is ALWAYS mentioned for the 5 years and since before I got into this. This mismatch for Candylime Green does make me a little nervous though. I'd talk to ninjamaster. He prolly could advise you best of what to expect if you have one of the weird colors that will be hard to match by paint mix or paint technique.

Here is a BL thread I recently saw.

You must be talking about the ram air tube covers. If you have a silver or white bike I would leave them as is. If you have a black bike, it would be a very subtle change. If the bike is any other color, I have seen painted RACs that look good. I saw some where part of the original grey was left. The textured part was painted. I liked that a lot.

Thanks for the replies.
Rook, maybe I'll ask Ninjamaster if he'll do the work. He said he would paint my grills awhile back. For some dumb reason I felt like I might be imposing on him and didn't follow through. I also wasn't sure I wanted to keep the bike. Now after reading that link you provided it's obvious he paints a lot and enjoys it. So I'll PM him and see if he can squeeze me in.
Yes, the inner covers (correct Kaw' terminology) cover the ram air tubes. I've never really likes the plastic look of them. Painting the grills would be a huge improvement but now I think painting the inners would blend right in. Only the seat cover would stand out as a bit too gray but I can deal with that later.
Rook, Erik, I always hoped Kaw' would come out with another black model and I could buy some factory painted grills but they never did. Kaw' started painting the grills in '08.

Ninjamaster isn't on the PM list. Guess I'll make a new topic to ask him.
