track bike

2003 ZX6RR,my youngest wants to sell his 6RR and get a ZX10,the 6RR has full race body work,Hindle full race exhaust frame sliders and power commander.IT has 35000 hard km on it,uses about a litre of oil every 3000 km but compression is excellent it has used oil since day one.I've been thinking about keeping it for myself giving him fair value for the bike. For him its a no lose situation .Should I keep it or not?

You'd have all your bases covered if you had all 3.

I watched a K4 10r last week on eBay- a track bike that was crashed and needed new plastics with only 8K miles
on the odo. It would have needed less than $1K to put back on the track.
The bike sold for $1,600.00. What do you think the actual market value of your son's 6r is?
I would hear from the dealership regarding what they would allow as a trade in value and see if you can actually get that in a private sale.
I know bikes are slightly more expensive in Canada,
but around here it would take a miracle and throwing in stands and gear into the deal
to get even $2K for it. You could easily buy a nice 05-06 636 for less than $4K.
Used bikes are really worth next to nothing these days, great buyers market.

I say do the track bike thing!! You won't be sorry. Here's a pic of me on my black R6 at the top of the Keyhole at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course last August. I have more fun on my track bike than any other bike I have ever owned! I think part of that is due to the fact that if I throw it down the track, I don't care. I let it all hang out and have fun with it. You can't ride like that on the street.

Hope the pic comes through:

Pretty cool, huh? Take the 636 to the track!

Very nice. It can be hard to get really excited about the idea of owning a 600 but then you look at something like those pics and think...........

Nice pics KS, I jusp want to comment on your body position though.
In the first pic the guy on the gsxr has a very good stance- his head is outside of the imaginary
mirror and with his hips (lower body) facing the turn. His upper body looks relaxed and his showlder and elbow (inside of the turn) are lowered.
However, in the 2nd pic the R6 rider's body position is slightly "crossed" IMHO.
You have your lower body positioned well (half a bun off the seat) with the hips turned properly;
the upper body though is still aligned (somewhat centered) with the bike and the head is not
nearly as much outside of the "mirror" as it should be- it's not following the hips angle. It makes it pretty obvious in the back to back pics if you just look at the two helmets, inside shoulder and elbow.

This is not a knock on your riding, I don't have a perfect BP myself, but just a couple of pointers in regards some easy things to work on and fix. You will go quicker through a turn if you can align your body better and just bring your head slightly lower and further outward of the mirror (some will say fork tube).

Rider in pic 1- good.
Rider in pic 2- easy to fix

Wow. One wheel and leaned over that far. That pic looks photoshopped. Good thing or that guy would be road pizza.

The point of the elbow is chopped off and the rider is a tiny bit out of focus compared to the sharp focus of the ground below him. The shadow is too dark for such diffused lighting on the bike and rider.

Photoshop or not, that pic illustrates a really good riding position.
This is the only way you could posibly drag your elbow- fingertips at the end of the hadlebar.
The only thing that actually gives it away as Photoshop is the left (inside) foot- it would definately be further back on the peg tippytoeing for more clearance, the left foot in the pic is flat and will not allow such an extreme lean angle IMHO.
The bike was sitting upwright on the stands and this guy (seems like a track instructor) leaned to demonstrate proper body position, you'll see plenty of that at any riding school.

I'll link a thread with track pics from GDC, some really cool stuff.

Look at his hand, not sure if THAT's the way to hold the bike when you're in that position. Hehehhehehe

Photoshop??? NAAAW!!! That's me trying my friends bike out for 2 seconds, as you can see i couldn't lean it to far since the tires were still cold!!! lol

Oh, now I get it. That's why you wheelied through that turn. You were afraid to corner that hard with a brand new front tire.

Yeah, Mass, I know I need to work on my body position - that and about a thousand other things! Matt Mladin is safe with me behind him.

Getting back to our point, though.................are we gonna the track the 636 or are we gonna get another liter bike??

I think here in the US the 636 gen1 was 03-04,
the gen2 was 05-06,but I could be wrong about the gen1.

636 or 6RR, either way, take it to the track! You won't regret it.
