Brake rotors
10/30/13 8:36 AM

Just invested in a pair of Galfer SBK rotors. Will be interesting to see how they compare to the OEM rotors. Anyone had this upgrade?
So far I've upgraded to Brembo master cylinder, galfer rotors and goodridge braided lines are on the way. Should make a big improvement as I'm not happy with the OEM rotors.

Will report back once I have the parts installed.

I have them and for the weight savings they are good but I don't like the feel of them....its like you can feel the wave sawing on the pads.

I have Galfers on the front. I know a few ZX-14 owners that have had to replace warped stock rotors (one guy did it twice) Mine were on the bike when I bought it, so the previous owner must have warped his stockers. No problems here with the Galfers.

If the reason you do not like the stock rotors is the low speed squeal, that might be cured with pads alone. My EBC schintered HH pads were very silent and just as strong as the OEM pads with OEM rotors.

I have them and for the weight savings they are good but I don't like the feel of them....its like you can feel the wave sawing on the pads.

I would describe my Carrazzeria rotors in exactly the same way. I am using with the EBC scintered pads which is overkill as far as bite goes. I think the sawing (groaning) noise and feel under heavy braking is from the rotor alloy biting too hard with the scintered pads.

My rear rotor is Galfer and it is very light and silent too. Works fine with EBC schintered pads.

I had the Black finish Galfer rear rotor on my 2007. I warped the hell out of it as I am a heavy rear brake user. I used the galfer HH pads with it. I ended up sending it back to Galfer and they said they had never seen one warped like that so they sent a free replacement. Good customer service from them but I'm sticking to the stockers for now on my 2012. So far so good at 9200 miles.

The brembo RCS19 is a nice little upgrade. for the price it's hard to beat. You can choose between a lot of initial bite or a more progressive feeling. The only thing slowing me down (pun intended) is the brembo pads. They work well once they are properly warmed up but I like the Vesrah better. As far as rotors go braketech got my money for life. 3000 miles on them but they are still pretty quiet and the feel is excellent. At least now my front tire looks like it's wearing as fast as the rear!

That's why I went with these, they are a little bit heavier but they're close to the OEM set up design wise and since I was installing BST's I didn't feel too bad.

I have the rear galfer also and mine looks the same as yours.....I think its too small or something. I really think the stockers with HH pads might be the best way to go....I'm in the middle od up grading my ZX10R brakes and I'm going with SS lines, HH pads and Brembo front calipers and going to stay with the stock disks...

for track I'll definitely go with braketech, the zx-10 is one of the lightest liter out there so you won't feel it. The brembo calipers come with pads but they are sub par IMO. They lack consistency and bite and a lot of racers are ditching them for vesrah or ferodo. It could be that they work better with brembo rotors! Replacing the mc with an RCS 19 will yield more improvement than the calipers. They do look good though! lol

glad you posted about this. My front stock rotor is warped so im thinking of getting new ones soon because that vibration is annoying.

All my parts have arrived and will report back on how much of an upgrade they are. I got a good deal for Brembo M4 calipers so thought might as well go for the full monty. Eventually for the brake system I'll have Brembo master cylinder, brembo m4 caliper, galfer SBK full floating rotors front and rear, galfer HH pads, Goodridge shadow brake lines.

OK so rotors and front caliper in but couldn't fit the rear rotor as it wasn't the correct one even though the catalog says so, asking galfer for assistance in problem. Been raining for the last few days so haven't had the chance to test this upgrade but itching like hell for a ride. Pix from the garage, looks pretty doesn't it???

OK so picked my bike up yesterday and boy what a difference this upgrade makes. Only done 20 miles from the garage to the house so haven't really run in the rotors properly yet but I can tell you now money well spent. Initial bite is excellent, not too aggressive but very predictable and consistent. It feels very confident under hard braking and you can really feel the calipers are grabbing the rotors firmly. Should improve even more after run in properly. The goodridge shadow braided lines are short in length however so my mechanic had to re-route it a different way.
