Totally different.
That idiot deserves what he got and more."
Gotta agree.
Our ability and right to go fast will end with crap like this event. You could kill some kids or mothers (Bad enough)and then get a law passed that no bike can be sold that can go more than 40 over the speed limit. Bad facts make for bad laws.

There is a legal concept called corpus delecti which stands for the notion that you can not be convicted by your words alone. There must be some corroborating evidence or testimony. He must have been without a lawyer or he must have been faced with other evidence other than his statements. It is a concept that is from the old English common law and I doubt if it is different in Canada as they have the same legal roots.
So I would not be afaid of your words alone. If you have a photo of you breaking the law or an idenitifed witness or give a time and place that allows local law enforcement officers to find witnesses then you could have some concerns.
For the most part there is no interest in pursuing bikers in forums for speed talk unless it is very dangerous conduct. You put famlies or kids in danger then you are looking for enforcement action.

Rook... ya I never read the forum post.... guess I shud have!! Still odd tho it was an American that reported it from the forum and not the "old guy" on the corner... I guess the boys in blue did some neighbourhood inquiries and found the old guy who may have been able to identify the vehicle.... but still identity of the driver wud be an issue if he was going that fast... even if he admits to it wud still may be hard to convict... not saying its a bad thing that he got convicted I think its great!!!
Alaska yes in Canada it wud be similar you wud need evidence to support the allegations ie; a witness to the offence... they must have found the "old guy" as their witness or other residents!! I am sure its not the first time they saw this retard doing this through their neighbourhood its a pretty noticeable car!! I wud have thrown a rock or something at him as he went by!!

the driver was an 18 year old kid and it does not sound like he was the hardened type at all. I'm sure he went to pieces as soon as the authorities informed him that they had a witness and several complaints that all identified him. He might have given a verbal confession on the spot. Probably going to be a hard lesson for him but I imagine he will be a lot more selective in the future.

He was convicted because he plead guilty. Probably some kind of plea bargain. Never never admit guilt period, make them prove it.
In criminal court unlike civil court the charges must be proven.
I would have said I was just lying to make it sound good on the forum and included the little details to make it more believable.
