How about mice.
My first guess.
If you shift to 6th,can you push the bike so the motor turns?
I think you may need to go with 2nd. Pretty sure it won't go higher than that with the motor off. try for third. You might get it if you roll the bike forward carefully clutch out, then pull clutch and click it up to 3. It might go. I doubt it will go higher than that but I'd say 3rd is ok. 2nd if you need to. Find a hill. Make sure you have no codes/normal meter display, kill switch is on, kickstand up and ignition ON. Maybe use partial clutch if 2nd too harsh. If it starts, you know it has to be the starter related and not fuel or motor related. It should start if the wheel turns fast enough without locking. I would try this on a warm day after the bike sits in the sun a few hours since it is the first start of the season.
You don't want to have to do that every time you start it though.
I have heard of people taking control pod switches apart and cleaning them but seems to me that a switch would work intermittently if it was dirty or worn out. The first wire I would look at would be the one from the ground to frame on the RH side (where the battery neg also connects). A thick black wire goes underneath, behind/below throttle bodies to the starter on the LH side.
