Shuddering after changing rear sprocket
07/01/14 12:34 AM

I recently changed my rear sprocket to a 44 and am now getting an occasional shudder in first and second gear at low revs. Any comments or advice would be greatly appreciated.

The bike is a preset design. Altering the speed of the tone wheels cause this momentary effect. Revert back to stock or live with the mod.

Thanks Hub. Is there any negative effect long term? I'm also experiencing a little decel pop as well after changing over to the 44.

No prob, plus, no long term anything. It's just a binary blip of the analog input. It was designed for this so no effects whatsoever down the road. So the computer thinks a wheel moved, but really, it takes that spin window to cause the triggering effect of the new square wave made. It's how the system communicates thru that wave length made at the tone wheel thru that magnetic pickup.

Interesting how a pop is now a cause on lift? Again, I can only guess there is ignition going on once that window is again on the decel range of that binary hit. It's still rolling forward, vacuum is being pulled too, the rpm's are coming down, the input is a closed throttle. So see how that calc reads: we add the rpm (sprocket spin), the tone wheels, the vac, the lift (TPS closed), and now the fuel/ign factors in on decel.

Why 44 teeth? When flashed its too easy to power wheelie with 41 let alone the stock 42. Couldnt imagine 44 and a shorter wheel base. The tc stutter would seriously iritate me. Almost as much as low speed riding in traffic with 39T. 39T can power up, but liked to keep the front tire real light, just barely touching the road and keeping tc1 happy.

I had the 44 on my last gen 1 which was already mated to the Carrozzeria so I wanted to see how they would both perform on the R. There is definitely a tendency for the front wheel to come off the ground but even with the Cblast flash I find it manageable - well sort of So I'm running 17/44 for now but may go back to 17/42 or even in-between 17/43. Thanks Hub for the explanation - makes sense even to someone like me!
