Chain Slap
09/18/14 2:20 PM

When my bike is up on the rear stand and I spin the rear wheel ( safely ) I get a lot of chain slap and noise. I know there is no load on the bike. The chain is adjusted to within spec, and the adjustment marks are matched on both sides.and it's slapping around like an NFL player at home.

When the bike is on the ground, it goes away. I'm at 230 lbs and I am running so far with the suspension settings from the dealer. Put a hugger on today, and was checking clearances and noticed it.

Is this normal? I don't think anything is going on when I am riding the bike, no noises, no excessive marking on top of the swing arm, but it has me paranoid for some reason.Just seems like a lot of slop and I am concerned with it.

Are y'all used to this when your bike is up on a rear stand.???...seems like my old ZX11 never did this....

Perfectly normal ... because the rear wheel isn't enough of a load on the chain. So the chain yanks the rear wheel, then the rear wheel over-runs the chain, and this repeats back and forth quickly ...
