Now for the million dollar question, when did you do the first valve inspection and the subsequent valveinspections? Also how often did you change the sparkplugs?

This is INTIMIDA2OR's bike at the other forum.
His initial post (HERE) where he talks about reaching 99,000 miles, he said and I quote: "still original motor, replaced like 28 sets of tires, average oil change is 8k, valve adjustment checked them at pretty much every interval, only had to adjust a few 2 times, compression is @ 170 across the board." No mention of spark plugs.

If my riding season keeps its current pace I'm going to overshoot my plug/air filter interval by 50%.
I planned on doing that stuff during the off season. The plugs I'm going to let slide till winter... the filter will get changed at 7500 miles.

I hear you, but I barely have any free time to ride mine. At my pace, I figure by age 70 I'll reach the 100,000 miles milestone, lol

@KO: 80% of my current mileage is my daily commute... 40 miles round trip. The money I'm saving in fuel is being repurposed to tire replacements. But the fun factor can't be expressed in dollars!

The fun factor is priceless I guess part of my problem is that my office is only about five blocks from where I live, and because I live so close, most times I stay to work late. lol Just to give you an example, I requested Thursday July 5 and Friday July 6 off. Planned to ride to Ocean City NJ, (which I did on the 4th), and then spend the rest of those days visiting my former employer at the dealership in New York. My initial plan was to stay in NY until Sunday. But last minute change of plans, and I had to work those days. So my weekend was basically ruined. Maybe I get to ride my bike more often before the summer is over.

Gulp, over 6 years old and mine just hit 16,500 on the clock. At the present rate, It will take me 30 more years to accumulate 100,000 miles.
Mine will not last that long, my average trip is 14 miles with throttle wide open for a good portion of that time, then park it. Rode hard and put away wet is not good for horses or machinery.

I'm curious how many of those miles were highway miles and 8000 miles on an oil change?? I do at least four I'n that time frame. Must work for him though.

I have only 18k bought the bike with 3500 miles so that's 15k in two years given that half of that time was spent in NE, it's not bad, I should be way pass 30k by this time next year! Can't wait to get 100 000!
and 8000 miles on an oil change??

I'm almost half way there too. Still runs flawlessly. Gonna have to up my game I guess
Mad, I think for me to get there anytime soon, I would have to quit my job, lol

Kruz, I sure hope I could get there with this bike in at least 20 years. In 30 years I'll be 86 and probably on a wheelchair, I don't think they'll allow wheelchair racing at the nursing home, lol

I was expecting him to give us more details about his milestone, unfortunately he didn't.

Craig, at my pace, I'll be happy if I can ride at least that many miles a year.

I used to ride 10,000 miles a year.I'm 57 and have bad joints so those 500 mile a day rides are out.

My 08, which is on the market now, has over 49,000 miles and the 2012 has just over 9400 on it now. I have had the Green 2012 for 7 months by July 17th. It could take me 6.21 years to put on 100,000 miles. I will be about 74 years old then.

Craig, I am 56, and taking your approach. Short rides work best for me.

I will be 69 on 2/17/13. I picked up the green 2012 because there was enough of a difference between the 08 and the new ZX-14R and I wanted to be on one. I picked up the extended warranty program because I plan on driving the wheels off of her. I will ride today.

21744, if people hear me whine and complain to my friends about my age, they would think I am already in my 80's. And you would not believe the looks I get at work when they see me on my bike. Granted, most are younger people and they probably associate sport bikes with people their age. For some strange reason, in our society lots of folks assume that once a person reach certain age he should be riding a GoldWing, Harley, etc. lol
It is reassuring to know how well built these engines are. After reading about that guy surpassing the 100,000 miles milestone without any engine breakdown on his ZX-14, I plan on riding this bike for a long, long time! Thanks!

Good to hear the ZX14 has legs. I am cruizing into the 40K mark. Always change the oil at or before 3K miles, air filter kept clean always,do all the checks. No big probs..Just changed out the battery after 6 years. It just smokes along..I still do 10 plus hour days on it when running long hauls.
Best performance upgrade so far has been ..ME..Loosing 40 lbs!!
