Front brake pads - OE replacements
02/28/11 1:38 AM

Any suggestions for replacement front pads. I'm at 26 000km and was happy with the original OE pads. My first replacements sucked with a no good bite and a glazed feel from the start(bought at a kawasaki dealerships as recommended replacement). I replaced them after a few thousand kilometres with my current set of dual carbon compounds(not so nice for innitial bite before you get a little temp in them but work extremely well at high speeds and repeated hard use). They need to be replaced now and I just want to know if someone else had some experience with them. I don't want something to last long, just want good alround performance.

Have you checked out the EBC HH sintered pads?

I have heard some good things of the EBC pads but haven't spoken to someone who has been using them on a 14. Do you know how they compare to the OE pads?

I will probably be going with Vesrah when the time comes. Here's a thread I found in Maintenanace. I'm sure there are a few other threads around here mentioning brake pads

I've made a couple of switches since having my bike.My first replacement set was EBC HH.They worked very well. Then the OEM Kawasaki pads. They worked very well. Now back with EBC...haven't been able to ride...so they will be new come riding time. One thing I did find out however...IF you're having an issue with brake judder associated with the rotors, new pads will not solve the problem. It may "stop" for a wee bit...but it will return.I have replaced my stock rotors and installed the EBC XC Pro-Lite's contours.Along with their HH's sintered. Will be bedding them in come Spring.

Previously,I tried sanding the rotors. Then sanding the pads. Then BOTH together.None of these combos worked for me(and also replacing the front tire at least ONCE during this other stuff...which stopped any light frontend shake at low speeds as some have experienced). The judder would kinda go away....then,before I knew it,I'd be stopping,or slowing, and it would be back again. So IDK IF once rotor "damage" sets in,if you can really ever get rid of it without replacing. There IS a "professional" way to bed in new rotors and pads...so I'm gonna really pay attention this new set and see if I can get it right. My stock stuff when I first owned my bike...it went like...maybe 5,000 miles or so before I noticed any strange feeling up front. And that started occurring right after I had gone out and "practiced' emergency stops...like from 100 down to 20.Something like that.Several times.Gonna avoid that this time out.

Maybe IF I had at that time resurfaced the then stock pads...there may not have been any further problem. But I didn't.I just kept riding it like that...for a while anyway.Till it got seriously shaky braking in turns.

Now I don't know IF this could be related...but...somewhere in the owner's manual it mentions something about "do not grab" the front brake.Okay...I know that makes safety sense, but myself...I actually DID grab the front brake on at least two occassions when I was confronted by an oncoming Hwy Patrol, and I kinda reacted.Grabbing the front brake(firmly to lose speed fast)could I suppose damage a fast moving rotor.Maybe that's what they're warning about in the manual...IDK.This time around,I may start a pad/rotor cleanup schedule....guess it couldn't hurt anything. They can become glazed quite fast under the right conditions.I won't be sanding the rotors though.

Where is that 'apology' guy when you need him. Blue, you, you cluckissfucker... Where is this 'professional break-in?" You see me with warp discs, deep breathing brake pad dust, I need to pull the pads out the car assoonass I find the toilet handle inside the new box it's in.

I shit on the tape so it wipes clean. Yeah, once I spend all day trying to figure out how to open the box. Dis boot withe directions on the heel says how to remove the pee in the boot, but I'm not pissing up a rope wit dis footwear.

No sir wee bob...

The "do not grab the front brake" thing is a safety issue. On my Busa at least, if you "grab" that front brake a little to quick, it'll lock that sucker.. no fun at 80mph.
I'm using EBC HH pads on the stock 'Zuk rotors, squeezing the fluid through Speigler braided lines. Almost 18,000 miles with 3 track days, the pads are a little past half way worn out. Will be replacing them when I do the rebuild. Have turned the rotors blue/black at every track day, no warpage noticable at all.
There's an argued "professional" way to bed in brake pads. Long drawn out PITA affair that I've never bothered with. Just ride it and they'll bed in nicely after just a few normal stops.

I just ordered front and rear pads for my '06, went back with OEMs, I like the initial bite and progression. Have tried the EBC HHs on another bike and to be perfectly honest wasn't all that thrilled with them.

Yea I'm running the vesrah's and for what it's worth, if street riding duty is what your 14 is used for you want notice much of a difference exept in wear and the vesrah's won't last as long as the OEM's

If the vez wear out faster, they are racing pad kind of wear window. Take a look at the back of the pad. If the fiber is course and far apart it's race face.

If the back of the material looks tight... really-really... tightly packed like stock, it's more heat to make them work. Then they are too glazed or polished to let loose the lesser packed puck. Geeeeeeeefade happens. The geeeee is in the diaper. The fade was only a memory you're still here.

Pick your puck.

Yea Hub their more track oriented, they like heat. On a cold day they don't bite as well unless you keep them warmed up.

Dunno...mine were I think 49.00 a set(that's 4)(100 something for the two sets)Not bad.EBC's.Gotta say...these new pads and rotors are just great!NO JUDDER.NO PULSING.Just strong smooth predictable braking action.Love these things!Stop as good or better than the OEM pads/rotors.No planned bed in either..as you guys said.Just regular braking and a few higher speed slow ups.Nothing major. They're doing fine.VERY HAPPY!!!!HIGHLY RECOMMEND FOR STREET USE

I've always went with EBCs on my Suzukis in the past but this time I tried something different (Vesrahs). I never was very plussed using the EBCs, not that they were bad, just not impressive. But every braking system is different. Maybe that is what I get next time.

What I really wanted to try was the 1375HH compound from Galfer. Full ceramic. But there is only one place on the net that lists a part number for the 14 and the dealers can't find it which makes me think it doesn't exist. Not to mention I wanted them like NOW! hehe

Speaking of part numbers, are there ANY other bikes which use the same calipers and pads as the zx14?
