I've made a couple of switches since having my bike.My first replacement set was EBC HH.They worked very well. Then the OEM Kawasaki pads. They worked very well. Now back with EBC...haven't been able to ride...so they will be new come riding time. One thing I did find out however...IF you're having an issue with brake judder associated with the rotors, new pads will not solve the problem. It may "stop" for a wee bit...but it will return.I have replaced my stock rotors and installed the EBC XC Pro-Lite's contours.Along with their HH's sintered. Will be bedding them in come Spring.
Previously,I tried sanding the rotors. Then sanding the pads. Then BOTH together.None of these combos worked for me(and also replacing the front tire at least ONCE during this other stuff...which stopped any light frontend shake at low speeds as some have experienced). The judder would kinda go away....then,before I knew it,I'd be stopping,or slowing, and it would be back again. So IDK IF once rotor "damage" sets in,if you can really ever get rid of it without replacing. There IS a "professional" way to bed in new rotors and pads...so I'm gonna really pay attention this new set and see if I can get it right. My stock stuff when I first owned my bike...it went like...maybe 5,000 miles or so before I noticed any strange feeling up front. And that started occurring right after I had gone out and "practiced' emergency stops...like from 100 down to 20.Something like that.Several times.Gonna avoid that this time out.
Maybe IF I had at that time resurfaced the then stock pads...there may not have been any further problem. But I didn't.I just kept riding it like that...for a while anyway.Till it got seriously shaky braking in turns.
Now I don't know IF this could be related...but...somewhere in the owner's manual it mentions something about "do not grab" the front brake.Okay...I know that makes safety sense, but myself...I actually DID grab the front brake on at least two occassions when I was confronted by an oncoming Hwy Patrol, and I kinda reacted.Grabbing the front brake(firmly to lose speed fast)could I suppose damage a fast moving rotor.Maybe that's what they're warning about in the manual...IDK.This time around,I may start a pad/rotor cleanup schedule....guess it couldn't hurt anything. They can become glazed quite fast under the right conditions.I won't be sanding the rotors though.
