Dilema...what should I do?
06/07/11 10:07 PM

Folks, I got 1Bad driving up on Sunday morning to buy my 10R for $3000. I have over $12,000 in this bike. Heck the Akrapovic Evo Titanium full system alone was $2000. I've been riding the bike every day, had it up to 100 mph this evening and took a couple high speed turns at 90 mph. She feels normal. My measurements are showing the front end is out about 3/32" to the left. That could just be the upper triple clamp needs to be loosened and everything allowed to settle back in to place. This is a big decision and a lot of money to throw away. What do you guys think?

What do you guys think?

I'd fix it... but I enjoy doin' that stuff.

Heck the Akrapovic Evo Titanium full system alone was $2000.

I'll give ya $1500 for the pipe and PC (assuming you have one and the pipe is not damaged).

Serious offer, BTW... Sorry I'm no help and probably just added to your dilema. lol

I'd see how it works out. Alot of cash to toss out the window. Unless you need to get rid of it, do not. Put her back together. It will most likely be less than the cost of a new bike. If you do decide to sell it, sell the exhaust and PC to Dogo. Will be a little less hit in the wallet.

My 2 cents

OR... Bet you can take all your aftermarket stuff off and still get $3k for it. Then you could probably find a leftover '09 for $7500-$8000 otd... just another thought.

BUT... if you do want to sell your aftermarket goodies, I'd buy most (if not all). lol

Sorry, 1bad... but you know you'd be stealin' that thing @ $3k.

if you decide after a couple of months you will surely get 3k for it then?

I think it's pretty obvious by the tone of your question you don't want to sell so why are you?

Just a month ago, a COG guy offered to travel to Hagerstown and give me US$9,000 cash for my ZX14, which if it was bone stock would be fair for a 2008 with the miles it has.

But I've got over US$25,000 in it, heading to the dark side of 35k, and I would have to come up with an awful lot of money to get a new bike that didn't make me regret selling my 08.

You might think about that Kruz.

Also, I really feel for you man. In 1992 I think, PTSD = memory holes, I threw my very modified ZX11 away in an uphill 90 degree in the Santa Cruz Mountains, headed for the ridge road and Alice's Restaraunt.

It sat in my garage, all mangled, frame bent (!). I got to the point of labeling every wire on the harness A1-A2 style and taking photos of all of the connections, bolt patterns, everything.

Then the depression settled over me, and I sold her for US$1,000. I have regretted that decision ever since.

RE: Dilema...what should I do?

Thanks for all the input folks, I'm trying to get my head straight on this and a detached viewpoint works wonders sometimes to put things into a proper perspective. Situation is, I don't need the cash, I can afford to let the bike sit in the garage indefinitely but I don't want to do that. I was thinking out of sight out of mind, get rid of it and it's done... it's been an emotional roller coaster ride for me ever since I went down two weeks ago. If I had full coverage insurance on the 10R this woud have been easy, drop it off at the dealer and pick it up with an insurance check when it's done...but I didn't. I have a zillion things going on right now at work and in my personal life and sometimes you just want to simplify. The more I get out and ride the bike though, the more I realize it's not bad, mainly cosmetic and this was probably my favorite bike of the herd. The front end was what had me worried but even if something is slightly tweeked it's repairable. Blue07, I was also thinking along your lines buddy, take the cash add some more and pick up a new leftover '08 as a replacement. Louis Powersports in Greenville, TX has two new '08s left, a Lime Green one and a Candy Blue one. If I did go that route I'd proabably go Blue, Blue...no pun intended.

Jafo, you're right on, a cooling off period is required. It's been exactly two weeks today since the crash and I'm not acting rationally yet.

Sombody said to me, "what's your worry, you got four more in the garage"! Try telling that to someone that had five children and just lost one, the logic doesn't work.

Anyway, I've got a friend up at my gym that likes to rebuild bikes as a hobby, has redone a couple of 600's He wants to look at it this evening and possibly ride it to check it out. He said he might be interested in it and would pay more for it.

Dogo, thanks for your generous offer but if I sold you the Akra, I'd have no exhaust on there. I gave the entire stock system to 1Bad about a month ago.

1Bad, I know you're going to be pissed buddy but I have to do what's best for me here. At the very least, I need to slow down and think hard about this before I do anything rash that I may regret later.

1bad should be alright with it. He was going to charge me a $1 a day to borrow a computer for a day's ride. How long ago was that? My time has taken a turn with what little time I had as far as an errand to hardly going anyplace fast. So, no, don't feel sorry for fatty. It is still days away.

Take that 'shake it out time' to think about wasting a decent bike that needs very little work; if you quit holding on to that plastic. That shit does not steer the bike. Don't let some clown you know fix your bike. That stuff never works out and it was faster to pay a pro or learn how easy it is on your own.

Go find book value on a trade. The number they use is a joke. So, if the public calls the price, this is a seller's market. I know bad, he's a fix&sell for a cool couple of don't wanna say. But if bikes are at a premium or they are sitting and not moving, I don't know? But if the economy keeps chump changing like it is, that bike will bring premium price even selling it as a stripper will still command way more than $2,500.

Every time there is a post, you should charge 1bad a $100 a post before he gets there, you count the posts, it begins @ $3,400 + each post till that money changes hands, the bike is up on the truck, title in hand, money still counting out, hurry BAD!

glad someone else said this before I lost control. I mean doin a fellow member a deal is one thing, taking advantage of someone you know is hurting to make a buck is another. Money's money to some people though.

to comment on the comment about just getting rid of the bike so you could move on... I must be very bad at that because I have barns full of old monsters waiting to be resurrected in one way or another. I just loved my kids too much I guess, I see past their little flaws like not running or no motor at all. lol Can't give up on 'em.

I'm going to keep it, 1Bad was going to turn a quick trick and pocket a wad of dough on this deal. Can't blame him though, he's lookin out for number one is all.

Many thanks to all here on the forum for helping get my thoughts straight on this whole thing. Cooler heads will prevail!

When you don't know what to do....DO NOTHING.My suggestion of letting her go was, well, mainly said to get your options pinpointed.Personally, and I said this before,I would repair the bike and ride er.I did that with mine.I also had NO INSURANCE.It was all out of pocket.Yours has a lot less damage than mine did.As I said...my first thoughts were...
"gotta get rid of her".....That lasted about a week.Course, she's the ONLY bike I've got.But still. It is a bummer seein yer favorite deal crunched all up,lookin hopeless. She's yer fav.Cool.Fix er back up.It really isn't gonna be that spendy....and I still think yer forks are FINE!!!!Shit man,if they are messed up,there's a bunch of reputable guys on E-Bay that sell brand new body/frame parts for these bikes. Not the fly-by-nights mind you...but sellers that've been on there for eons! You don't HAVE to sell er just because ya said you would.Yer allowed to change your mind.

If anything, you'll be really screwed in the head once you get your hands in her and start to know her intimately. At least that's how my psychologist explained it for me.

When you see those bikes cartwheel, that is when you laser for junk or repair. You went down and all that energy was when the bike smacked down on the bars/crown/fairing/etc. I doubt you woke the frame up in that incident. If I looked as fast and in shock as I could at those frame welds on my bike, they were not even touched.

I called the front end tweaked. If you think I don't know a tube frame an a tank of a frame, I'll come out and buy the bike and put that triumph front end on it and call it a chopper. You know how much money an old piece of shit triumph chopper goes for?

That frame is not even blemished. Look at the welds at the neck and any weld around the neck. You see aluminum showing at those beads? NO? Not Totaled. Add the plastic/labor = Totaled. It's borderline but you have no insurance to call that ball so technically, it's not a total you do the work, buy aftermarket body parts or ride a stripper and go back to hauling ass with it.

It's now a beater. You'll probably break even if you did minimum. If say you just replace the lower crown, see if that top crown dials in or wait for that part to come in and the bike is done. Trump a headlight on it and don't get caught in the dark with it. It's all a daily driver to the gym.

CheezeIS! You see that camp, Kruz? MATT flies in the air like a buzzard with Bad. Here at campunchore lights out, all Kruz broke was a head light shell, and your typical front end parts. If you hand me that over/under, I can get those two from here for ya, Kruz.
