ABS

I have a REALLY dumb question here....when fully applied(front and rear)....ABS will stop(prevent) ANY skid on a regular surface,yes?

I have hauled my Connie down hard and had ABS kick in, no skidding, no tire chirping, no shuddering, just stopping.

"Any skid?" Well, any skid that may occur in straight line heavy braking. All bets are off while turning and such.

I will put forth that on a loose surface, if you change the scooters attitude to something other than the line IT wants to follow, no amount of "keep the wheels from locking" is going to save you.

I suspect all you can expect is the avoidance of a situation where heavy braking would alter the scooters natural attitude on a surface that provides reasonable expectations of grip.

Rolling tires in loose gravel is still a fucked up scenario.

I for one would really like to know the details of the 2013 model ABS.

Linked, or not.

Firmware / Algorithms lifted from Connie 14, or not.

User Interface capability to turn it off, or not.

Details like that will make a big difference.

I cannot turn ABS off. I can turn KTRC off, and I can put K-ACT (brake linking) on low setting. But ABS is always on. And yes, thats the version you will be getting.

@hagrid - after 45 some odd years of riding, you'd think I would have mastered gravel roads.

Nope. I still suck on gravel roads. Also, I suck at stopping on gravel roads. At least the ABS helps me a little.

These days, I just roll and let the speed come down, then a little rear brake as necessary (which works great in gravel) and then to actually stop the very slow roll, I use the front brake. So she skids a couple inches. No problem, just make sure she is upright and pointed straight ahead.

So I suck on gravel roads, but I've got a method that works good enough.

My technique on gravel roads is to lock the front, fall off onto my face, slide along the ground while me feet flutter back and forth over my head, and finally stop in a cloud of dust.Works EVERY time.

@Bean07:

Personally, I would not want to turn it off. But, many race tracks are now considering rules that require some or all electronic "assistance" be hobbled, or turned off.

Surely, Kaw corp. knows about these proposed rules and their potential customer concerns...

@Privateer:

I live at the end of a dirt and gravel road. I get plently of practice, every day. I still suck at stopping on them too. That's one reason why the capability is so attractive to me.

I get to practice with my other cycles that do have the ABS. It helps to have the setup to practice, but the fear of falling and injury keeps me from really pressing it... Yup, it's my fear, I own it, and it's up to me to get over it, I know.

Thanks for the report on how well behaved the Connie is under ABS control. That's really good news, compared to some other manufacturer's implementations I've read about.

@Bean07:

Do you have any experiences you would be willing to relate regarding the ZX handling on your cycle, under ABS conditions? That is, it came on for ya, and then what happened?

No not yet my off!was on my 2010ZX1400 that was hitting the brakes hard at 40 kmph & causing my femur to shatter & my patella,but I can say Honda,s dual link braking got me outta the shit hitting a L/H 35 Km bend way to hot 2-up (about 120kmph) and with that technoligy the bike squatted and we made it around then,all I can say in a split second in the real world (street riding)any assistance is great in dire moments & im glad I have the ABS now for anything that comes my way in the future
