Motor build issues
08/24/14 9:55 PM

Hello.
I am having some issues with my motor that was recently built. Mine was the 1st 14 motor the guy had built, has been drag racing & building motors for many years, and he actually rebuilt my friends stock 14 motor and added nitrous with no issues. With my motor the issues I'm having include poor idling, backfiring, noisy top end. The motor has 87mm pistons, slotted sprockets, cams, ported head from what I can remember off the top of my head. I'm looking for any suggestions as to where to begin troubleshooting this problem as the mechanic feels the motor is good and just needs a map.

Included are:

1. Poor idling. What is compression? Very first thing or chase your tail for all the rest.
2. Backfiring. Where are we map/PAIR/pipe/ac?
3. Noisy top end. Describe the noise. Cam chain? Ticking? Knocking?
4 The motor has 87mm pistons.. Pistons might be noisy.
5. Bike never had a sync? Where are we balance wise for a better idle? 1,100 rpm is idle. We too low?

1. compression...waiting for build notes
2. backfires with & without map. Gonna check for intake leak.
3. noise...tick, maybe headers aren't seated correctly, valves were shimmed also
4. had issue with throttle bodies, injector wasn't firing, replaced them
5. idles best above 1500rpm
