Michigan Mile
05/04/13 4:43 PM

Running Michigan Mile July 4th weekend. I need some rules help. Does anybody have a rule book from Maxton, Texas, Bonneville, etc....?

1. They want the front axle safety wired. Fine, but how? I was thinking wire the two pinch bolts together on both sides

2. They think they want metal zippers on zip together leathers. I have Hein Gericke with YKK plastic or so they seem. I would like to know if this is a common SOP. They said if I find it approved elsewhere I can run it. Suit is at the leather shop waiting for an official answer.

Thanks Matt

Hey congratulations you will love it and be hooked as soon as you do it! I have run the Loring Maine LTA even and will be doing it again this year. Pretty much everything needs to be safety wired. I put in titanium pinch bolts with drilled out heads and then also drilled a small hole through the fork and through the round nut that hold the front axle on. Not a large hole but just big enough to get the safety wire through it. You will also have to tape all your light and pull off the mirrors. And lastly have a full metal chain guard on along with an engine kill tether to you wrist. You can buy those at Snitch Racing…..Good luck and Cheers!!

I know brock states in one of his setup articles it takes 15hp to push the mirrors through the air at speed. That being said, Bobk hit 205 on his gps with the mirrors stuck out on a 2012 14r.

Matt taking the mirrors makes a huge difference for sure. Even when I do track days you can feel how much faster the bike will transition from side to side. Take them off for sure.....I wish I could keep them off cuz it feels so much better riding her like that....
