Lost a Close Race Today
05/24/13 2:17 PM

My buddy and I had a great drag race today. Unfortunately he won. I had him off the line big time. Left him in the dust. Was running at redline and he slowly crept by me. Took him a long time to catch me and pass me but he finally did. If only I could have used second gear !!! Those CBR250,s have more top end than I thought!!!
This is his bike>

I passed a proud dad with his 12 or 13 year old son on the back. He was on a Suzuki Boulevard or some shit like that. They rolled up next to me all smiles and the Dad was revving the engine taunting me to race. I lowered my visor and pointed to the light, pointed to him and hunched into a Rickey Gadson drag bike leaning position. When the light turned green, I let him cream me. I shook hands with him at the next light in congratulations.

I hope someone out there will not let me lose face with my son, when my time comes.

Ps I think he knew I could have ate him!

What an intense buildup you had going there!

Good decision, though, to let the little guy see his dad win.. Afterall, dad's are supposed to win at everything they do.

To every boy, his dad is the hero, and rightfully so, this dad needed to win! We both won! I was happy to see him beaming and his son pumping his fists. It was a victory for Dad's everywhere. I have two kids, so it was a victory for me too!

Mad love

they would get excited just watching me leave to ride to work, so I would give em a quick burn out or snatch the wheel down the street, look in the mirror and there laughing and slapping high five, makes me laugh just thinking about it, now my oldest is getting out of the army and I'm proud to say he is zx14 crazy!

Debating on picking up a used GSXR 750 for my son, (and maybe a track day or two for me LOL) the guy wants $3000 but i'm sure he will take less, it is suppossed to be in great shape with 21,000 miles on it, my son just turned 16, dont know if I want to get him started with street bikes, if something happened to him, I would never forgive myself ...

cara, you'd have to school him with the both of you riding together. There's also the state run bike schools if one is around close? Or else it's back to homeschooling. The left hander, the oil/gas/wet test, the close calls. You know the game. Then, there is this defensive level, and how aggressive do you want to be with traffic, the cops, the tailgaters, the ragers in the cagers?

Hey, papa genes is you lived this long. You can teach them so much and then it's ah, fuck you I know better. And they take off on their own you got all worried over nothing, and here you are with dog in hand, mustard on lip, yelling at the grand kid to slow down, the son has him riding at 2yrs old.

Hey cara, Im torn because you want to be the one to teach them the right way to do things but you never want anything to happen to them just the same. Wolfman you gotta love the kids and they dont even realize they do just as much for you as you do for them.

Cara, I want to buy my boy a 50cc, teach him respect for the bike, how to ride, what gear to wear. If he takes to it, I will trade down to a dual sport and ride with him full time. His mom is fighting me, but I want him ready for the moment when he is presented with his first big bike from Dad, maybe a 750 gsxr... What they do is beyond our reach, if you raised him well (I'm sure u did) and a dash of luck and good training he should be fine!

Bobby they have definately soften me up and taught me to be self reflective and mirror what they need from a father...Bless em, love em both.

Green you work in a group home, or education? Either way, they are lucky to have you bro!
You rock!

Hub, he will rebel, they all do, but not if riding the bike depends on it. I have the ultimate carrot...

Mad love Boyz.

You guys are right, I guess I would want me to be the one teaching my son how to do things, I cant be two faced about it, if I teach him, and get him started down this path, and he turns into a speed junkie like me, I have to respect that that is what he loves to do, and I have to let him do it, just as my wife and him never tried to discourage me to get a new bike after the accident, still not easy, but I would understand if he gets hooked..

And double edged it can be, My son is 6 feet and 250, all muscle power lifter, so to put himon a 750 would kinda be a joke, but I told him he has to take the class or I will shut whatever he gets down till he does then he has a couple of months to spend with the old man, he whole heartly agreed which made me feel better I didnt have to fight about it, lol.
Cara-fruit doesn't fall far from the tree just make sure he has the sence and tools to do it right, I gave my dad gray hair when I bought that 900.

Wolf, accident was last year, totaled my busa, me, broken collar bone, broken shoulder, craked ribs, collapsed lung, but am glad I made it through it, my left shoulder will never be the same, but it is functional, could have been worse, doctors said if I didnt slide to the left, and go over the front of the car, that I would have probabaly been dead or worse (for me) paralyzed, in this case, I was glad I didnt have ABS, because I would have probably gone through the drivers door, instead of over the front bumper ! hardest part was watching my son in tears when he saw me in the ER, I got the full treatment, helicopter ride to the trauma center and all ! LOL !

Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude, that just down right sucks...
Glad you are in one peice and walked away, that said, I feel your pain bro...Here too, I had knee surgery and was laid up for 6 weeks, had to hide details from my son as his anxiety is off the charts when the ole man is out of commission.

Hard stuff. Glad you got back on the bike man and you're not looking back.

Putting your son on a 750 GSRX for his first street bike? That is a LOT of rip. Even the 600s are no slouches. Buy him a used BKing and have it locked on low power mode. That would give him a cruiser/mild sport bike. What about a ZX14 used, locked into slow mode? The dealer should be able to fix the wiring so it is stuck in slow mode all the time. Kids around here (Florida) routinely kill themselves on bikes being stupid. Love on him while you got him!
