Lowering Links
12/09/09 9:37 PM

Ok guys, I just bought a 2008 and discovered that it has chrome 3 hole adjustable lowering links on it. Currently it is the middle of the 3 holes. My research indicates that should have the rear lowered somewhere around 1.25 inch. I want to put it back to stock height which is the top hole. Am I correct in this? And also, what do you need to do to change the position? Put it on a rear stand and then put a jack under the shock to take a little pressure off?

You got it. To clarify, "I want to put it back to stock height which is the top hole"........... In other words, to lower the bike, lengthen the link. To raise the bike, shorten the link. Be careful to prevent tipping your bike when you apply the jack to the rear shock. If your kickstand was also modified, the bike will lean a bit more than stock, unless you install a stock (length) kickstand. Have fun.

Yes, stock would be the highest hole away from the ground, making the link the shortest possible, correct?

To be sure, I measured my spare stock dog bones (links)and the distance between the holes is 7 inches. So, use the holes that give you 7 inches. This will take you to "stock" height. BTY, I also have an 08 Sapphire Blue ZX14; so we're comparing apples to apples.

Do you know if the front fork on your bike was lowered as well? If it was, you'll probably want to raise the front fork to keep stock geometry. I have bar risers, so I can't comment on where the fork tubes should fit in the triple clamp for a stock set up. Of course, you should be able to feel the difference and can adjust based on feel/handling.

Awesome thanks for the info! It doesn't appear the front was lowered at all. Just the rear. Looks like probably 1.25 inches. It gives it a nice level look. I'm going to leave it alone for a little bit just because I like the way it looks but if the front starts pushing coming out of the turns on me, I'll raise it back up for sure. Actually its kind of nice being adjustable like that!

SO this is all confusing. you have mixed signals goin on here. A shorter link is a higher bike? that doesnt jive with using the top hole to raise it.
