I've been looking at this mod for months. K96 is the # I see over and over for the 14. IDK if it is the same one for the 14R but I would think so if that is what you find listed for the 2012-present bikes.
Sucks this one is not gold. If you paid top dollar, I'd want to return that even though it probably makes no difference once you get the part in. I'd still want the goldie but you never know, this one might be lighter weight or more ware resistant.

When you get it installed please write it up... I have wondered about how well this product works.

IMO the factory shift star works VERY well. It's the spring that changes the effect.I've put the EVO Pro shift star on all my bikes.Did it make a big difference?Honestly,I only noticed it being 'better' with clutchless downshifts. The 14 has a shift change value...rpm wise.If you follow that,it'll shift most excellent. Those values are pretty low(speedwise). But in upper range rpms, the timing of the shift is what makes it smooth.Would I add another shift star to any of my bikes?No...I don't think so.The spring is the key.Not the star.
If you could just get the spring(thicker)...that'd really be all you need.Probably someone out there has an aftermarket spring.

I found these were an absolute must on Gen1's to smooth shifting right out but not so much on the Gen2's with their updated gearboxes.
See link.
Evo Shift Star???

Looks like Cblast also got a plain finish EVO in his bike from the pic posted in the thread yannih linked to. Perhaps that is the only way they make them now.

I compared the star with the factory one...they were identical.I noticed the new 14's have the ball bearing arm in there. The earlier models didn't.(my 07 didn't).So the arm bearing and spring is really what makes the difference.Probably why the 2012's and up shift 'better'....but they all shift really well in the right rpm ranges.
I still say if you could find an aftermarket arm(bearing)and a thicker spring...that'd be all you need. There is quite a difference between the stock spring and the EVO shift star kit spring.

Assuming the way it shifts stock is the result of a design decision, what kind of compromise is there for doing this kind of mod, with the entire star kit or perhaps just with the spring as Grn suggests? Yes I am giving Kawi engineers the benefit of the doubt as to them being deliberate here :)

Can't say for sure but isn't the star shaped a little different than the OEM star? It might have a reasonable impact on the shift quality. If you just install the spring and you are not impressed, you will probably want to try the star. Take it all apart again.

The factory spring is pretty light. It could have been designed to be thicker. It does make a difference.Plus you have the factory spring being what it is...it loses that action more quickly over time.I didn't see any difference in the aftermarket star than in the oem.Could be though.I compared em to each other..I didn't see anything different except the finish.
