stock configuration.
07/29/11 8:52 PM

After much trial and error...adds and take offs,I have finally returned to full circle. My bike is now materially stock.Pipes...yes,aftermarket(only for weight saving). No secondaries...right.PCIII...natch..with a Jeffo map.Ignition advanced...4 degrees. But the bodywork and all now back to my stock setup. No risers.Stock windscreen.Carbon fiber panels below and above.Connie shaved seat.Yes.Rifleman's throttle mod....yes.Ride height...stock.

I'm saying this because....in it's present setup...this motorcycle performs flawlessly.Everything about the design IMO is exactly matched to get the max performance, handling, styling, and aero's.Stock that is.Not modded with Turbos and such.Stock gearing.Stock suspension settings. It will never be a 600.EVER.And it's not supposed to be.At least in my case...with my weight and all....it is a great piece of machinery....everything is just as it should be.

Unbelievable that a bike this strong and all would hold up as great as it has.Just awesome.I could ride my baby from So.Cal to New York and NEVER fear it would leave me stranded.46,000+ miles now and running better than ever!

My wife I jealous of my bike because every time she asks me what are you thinking about my response is always ridding the 14.

I'd say you were mildly modded. Not stock with an aftermarket exhaust of any kind on there.

The gearing, I think is perfect for all around riding of all kinds. Going shorter is fun but stock is good. may go back some day to 17/43. Never go back to stock exhaust. never bother to put flies back in. Never give up the auto tune/PC.

I thought someone would say that.Well....basically MECHANICALLY it IS stock. That's what I meant really.Ya...maybe the pipes help er breathe a bit more, and those pesky flies....you know why we remove THOSE babies. After ya learn to control yer fuel inputs,ya don't want those things ruining your throttle response. But I really meant the overall package.Suspension, engine power, bodywork. The way she rolls along the road.Smooth...slick.stable.Ya.....that's what I was meaning.I'm very very comfortable with the stock bar setup, the windscreen.I didn't think I really would be...so I changed some things around. You know. But after all this time....I found my stock factory setups work excellently for riding. Not to say,if I was someone else...maybe weighed more,or whatever...I would need to adjust things. But as is now....really nice.I'm leaving her alone now.Just enjoy what the Company put together.(gotta tell ya Rook..those friggin BT003's are BITCHEN my man.Hold like glue.Took some NICE corners today...140+[I couldn't have done that quite as fast with my Pirellis on there without SOME body shake].Not a smidgen of wiggle or weave at all.(These are gonna be my new tires for however long....I REALLY like em).I can see how you had such a great time at the track runnin these pups.

Okay Bean....just for you bro...

Southern California is like 5,000 miles to New York...somethin like that...long ways on a bike.

Thanks Russty. For some strange reason...the seniors(65 and up) really like this bike.I've no idea why.Always gettin the thumbs up from the older cage riders. What's another odd thing...when I'm out there rollin....almost without fail..when I'm gonna make a pass...nothin crazy mind you...the cages usually pull over to the right side of their lane and slow down so I can get by without drama. It's VERY strange!

I wish the cages in my area would pull over. /sigh

When I rode from north to south in Western Europe in 1991, I found that cages consistantly gave way to motorcycles. I see maybe 1 cage a month here that will. They must be from France?

Back to your idea about stock-ness, blue07. I agree, the ZX14 is pretty perfect for what it is, stock.

In the course of modifying mine, 80% to get a more sit-up position and allow myself to ride 7, 8 hours a day over a number of days straight, I wandered from true North a bit. I would have been better leaving the stock rear fender assemply on. I didn't need the CT-Duals or even the piggy. Certainly not the intake velocity stacks or -1T front sprocket, or jeffo's map, or Brock's map. Sorry, I'm a hotrodder deep in my soul. Always have been. If it wouldn't go 200mph I'd make it go 200mph.

But you know, I can counter-steer faster and more accurately now than I could with clip-ons, and that is a big deal on the street. I could barely do MSF Experienced+ figure 8s with clip-ons, the ZX14 doesn't like to counter-steer that steeply at 5 mph. Now I hang a bit of my fat butt on the "outside" and push the opposite handgrip and she will come around at low speed like a much smaller bike. It still scares the shit out of me, because if you blip the throttle or touch the front brake or apply too much rear brake, its laying on its side.

Yes, I've seen the video of the guys muscling goldwings and ZX14s around with tons of counter-steering, but they are light years better riders than you or me. At least, better than me, I can say for sure.

You young guys can run circles around me; I may be old, but I can remember. Heh.

And I haven't seen a ZX14, stock or otherwise, I didn't like.

After much trial and error... Me too

...adds and take offs... Yep

I have finally returned to full circle... Same here

My bike is now materially stock... For sure

Pipes...yes.. Yes in a way

...aftermarket(only for weight saving)... Mule testing here

No secondaries...right. Same here too

PCIII...natch... Dobeck here

...with a Jeffo map. No PC here

Ignition advanced...4 degrees... Had to watchall effect only as another mule test

But the bodywork and all now back to my stock setup. Kiss my ass!... put shit back on

No risers... Left mine on or my arms numb

Stock windscreen. Yep

Carbon fiber panels below and above... Nice... on your bike!

Connie shaved seat...yes... Neveruin the OEM is kind of waste the aftermarket instead

Rifleman's throttle mod....yes... That is a long reach around, but OEM is yes to here

Ride height...stock. Sagged here

I'm saying this because....in it's present setup...this motorcycle performs flawlessly. Sha-Ding does it!

Everything about the design IMO is exactly matched to get the max performance, handling, styling, and aero's. Took the words out of my mouth

Stock that is. Says you say it ain't so! Watt am I saying... Yes, bone stock that is

Not modded with Turbos and such... That beemer speed is looking good without so cash waiting for one of them N/A's

Stock gearing... If leaving from 1st gear or 6th gear from a dead stop you forget to change gears?

Stock suspension settings... No problems here... Though I know that big change difference is night and day from production parts

It will never be a 600...EVER.And it's not supposed to be.At least in my case...with my weight and all....it is a great piece of machinery....everything is just as it should be. Sans being long in the tooth get some ponies in this thing!

Unbelievable that a bike this strong and all would hold up as great as it has.Just awesome.I could ride my baby from So.Cal to New York and NEVER fear it would leave me stranded.46,000+ miles now and running better than ever! Shit, I could be a carrier, change oil on one coast, come back, change the tires and oil on the round trip, tell me when to stop.

Good one Hubster!

xxxses..those are EBC ProLite Square rivet rotors.I think...they were right around 500 a set.Got the EBC HH Sintered Pro pads on there as well...they REALLY work nice. Not a hint of fade, warpage,or glazing.

Well...ya...I've gone and returned to the stock aeros. The only one other I might go with now would be the MRA spoiler screen...only cause it's the same shape and build as the one on the Kawi website for "accessories" for the zx.Apparently, they have no problem adding that mod to the minimal list of "okay" stuff that won't negatively affect performance.I DO like the MRA as well.Very nice screen. For carving and high speed stuff...that stock screen IMO is unbeatable...really.It really helps the bike to flow well in the windblast. And I can feel a definite stability when cornering and transitioning with that stock screen on there. You know, when yer leaning over and in to the side of the frontend there, the deflection of the airflow is very precise and designed to go a certain direction coming off the frontend and around the pilot's head and torso.I found the stocker works the best at doing that.
