Service time
01/04/16 3:42 AM

Looking for recommendations for full service which is due. 2009 Zx has done 44000 and rego is up. Have only done last 2000km myself. I believe spark plugs/ valve adjustments are due, some mechanics say 42000km and others say 48000km so I feel 44000 is about right. I live in the Hills district of Sydney but would just like to find someone honest and at a fair price . Mechanic I have been using for my other bikes said about $1300-$1500 which sounds way over the top. Bikebiz at $880 including parts. Any thoughts?

I had my valves adjusted, oil change, spark plugs changed AND new fork seals done for $1000 US.
Seems your price is kind of steep to me.

Grn, I think I had around 50k at that time. One started oozing down the leg so I took it to a fork/ suspension specialist here. Turned out they do full service and mine was due so I had the rest done while I was at it. They also synced the throttle bodies while there.

I hear valve lash adjustments are not profitable for a shop so if you pay someone to do it, make sure they really DO do it. You won't be able to tell by listening to the engine or riding the bike. Same goes for T body sync. Both of those procedures are huge PsITAs on the 14 and if the bike is running good to begin, can't tell any dif after adjusted. JMHO.

I agree Rook, that's why I was looking for recommendations because if your not there watching how can you be sure they are doing what they are charging for and who has time to do that?

Gday Shoey,
Im sorry to be the bearer of bad news but from experience in the Sydney area, there are no service guys I can recommend.
Ive tried many from the big dealer boys to the smaller race shops ranging from basic services to engine replacements and I have never ever had a proper job done.
There has always been either a small or substantial issue with the work I have requested.
If you are mechanically inclined its by far the best bet to do your own work because you know it will be done to your standards.
If not its a matter of finding the best of a bad bunch bike mechanics wise.

Sorry for the negative response.
