First 30 miles
03/31/15 7:42 PM

I've ridden many motorcycles over many years and all I can say is, I am the happiest I've been in a very very long time and I only went 30 miles on this bike. I can feel the surge of smooth rushing power at only 3500rpm and right at 4000 I can see what this bike might be like. Simply fabulous.

It's not just one thing. It's the whole package. Somehow it just feels correct. While not a boring touring bike, it feels like you should ride it all day and in fact, tour. While not a tiny rocket, it still feels quite capable of intelligent lean angles and sport riding. This is a bike for real riders. Not squids. Not knee draggers. But true riders who appreciate fine machinery and ride intelligently. That's me. I am in love. (already)

Congratulations!!! It only takes a few miles to get addicted to the turbine smooth motor and tractor torque!!! This bike is a lot of different things to different people but all around use is hard to beat. Hope you enjoy many miles with many smiles!!!

Yeah, it's bad to the ass. But if you are that smart, you would have bought one 9 years ago when they first came out. I call bullshit.

The fact is, I've always "wanted" one of these bikes but could never bring myself to actually buy one. The sheer size and weight plus the looks always put me off. Until now. I always have and always will make my own choices, but many people seem to enjoy downplaying the incredible power of the mighty Ninja and try to convince themselves that they don't need that kind of power, like it's some sort of trade off. Perhaps I was a bit influenced by the nay sayers, deeming a heavy bike not worthy of my attention. 30 miles later all I can say is....wrong. Wrong wrong wrong.....the bike does NOT feel as heavy as it is, and "all that power" is simply what makes it so darned exciting.

Exciting to ride, own and appreciate. How foolish can people (including myself) be, to think that you don't "need" a big, heavy, comfortable, powerful, smooth, athletic motorcycle?

Every time I think about riding, my mind goes straight to the ZX14R. And I love my Ducati and Triumph!

The Duc is entertaining because it feels like a wild animal. The Triumph is damn near a perfect motorcycle and has great character with the three cylinder engine. But damn....that Ninja is the real reason we ride....to experience flying without wings....aircraft personified. Everything else feels like a toy.

I can see how some even have two of these bikes. My life has changed now since having one, no regrets!

All you have to do is run WFO on a ZX ONE time, your whole outlook on life changes, causes some to find religion!!!

Hmmm..30 miles. That means that you're almost ready for a new rear tire...
Congrats on finding out what all of us here have, that the ZX14 is just an amazing bike.
Enjoy!

Said jokingly but sadly not far from fact!! When I bought my 2008 ZX-14 with just over 2000 miles on the clock, the rear tire was down to the belts! I put Michelin PR3's on it and am doing much better.

jwh20, I see you also like to torture yourself with an Italian Twin so that you may appreciate the Japanese four!

I like to ride my Ducati and rattle my nuts a bit as an S/M routine so that when I hop on my triple or better yet ZX, I can GO nuts with the wonderful smoothness!

"You gotta know bad so you can appreciate the good"...LOL.....hey....I've always liked the Sportster too.....but I absolutely hate the HD prices and consequently want nothing to do with them (anymore)

I had a duc follow me on the downhill from the rock store. I can hear that engine behind me; the fuck if I'm going to use my rear brake so we squirt out of a corner, I see a spot in my rear view mirror. He shows up again, spot that little shit bike in the mirror again fuck that! So much for duc soup shit box! No offense to the tires.

Harley folks say "Buy a REAL bike"......Duc riders say "ride something with soul"......well, if you look at it objectively, a "real" bike with "soul" should excite you and impress you and not piss you off in any way.

That's the ZX14 IMO.......and to Hell with saddlebags, trunks, GPS mounts and radios....I'm interested in the fuckin ENGINE of my bike and what the fuck it will DO for me. Period. Oh, I concede to one electronic device stashed inside my tank bag....Adaptiv radar detector which saves my ass from getting torn apart by our friendly police

I took my first "real" ride which included open stretches and short jaunts across mountains for 290 miles. In top gear at just under 4,000 the fun begins as you roll it to 4500 ! Nice and legal too !! Only 75 mph or so while breaking it in!

When I get a few more miles on it I'll see what joy 6,000 rpm brings! Because I want to stay away from the law, I'll probably never run past 6K, but now and then? Who knows, very very addictive I can already see!

Find a lonely road and open it up all the way to the top, baby! Make sure there's no cops and careful about those deer.

Yeah I call it the general problem of 'ZX14 Math'. Seeing redline in anything over first puts you in potential legal peril almost anywhere. And I really don't have the stomach for redline in first gear, so peril be it. But gods, the sound, the folding of space....

Apexlocator you're spot on. This bike has shocked me in so many ways. She'll boogie woogie through corners, she'll outrun superman from 40-186 mph, and she's got plenty of heart and soul. Really an amazing machine. It's got tons of character. I bet we could line up 10 14s next to each other, and each would have a slightly different rattle, or the engine would make some noise in one it doesn't another. And someone might say "rattles aren't good though". I get that, but I couldn't care less. That's character, that's that x factor each one of these girls has. Evora put's a smile on my face just thinking about taking her out for a ride, and then for a couple-three hours afterwards.

BTW hit 1000+ miles with today's ride for this season, my goal is 7500. My first ride was 3/19 this year!

Yes yes.....we are riding fabulous ENGINES, wrapped in a very functional and wonderful package called a motorcycle which becomes better and better looking as you embrace her. How she makes me feel is so much more important than what others think of her looks. She's big and bold and turns me on. That's all that matters! LOL
