I just rolled over 3000 miles on my ZX-14. So what's the big deal? Well I'm the THIRD owner of this 2008 and it had only about 2100 miles when I picked it up last November. Of course we had the intervening "winter-from-hell" between November and May, so I've really only been able to ride it for about a month and a half now. Mostly just back and forth to work.

So both previous owners put on 2100 miles in 5 years. I've put on 900 in just a month and a half. What I don't get is why would anyone have a ride like the ZX-14 and NOT ride it? I'm cornfused... But loving the ZX!!

I got a late start too. Mine is an 08 also but I'm about 45000 miles ahead of you! Annastasia is about to be torn down now for numerous little enhancements but by the time she's back, maybe you can catch up. I give it about 2 months. Glad i have the busa which is also a fine machine in the meantime. I really missed her while she was out with smashed fairings all last year. Now that old girl hit 6k miles today. WHo says busas have a buzzy engine. It's a smooth buzz like a vibrator and I have to say I quite like it.

My 2010 Multistrada is in the bad books with me at the moment. 52000km and the hardening is flaking off the bloody exhaust cams

Good question. But the PO on my bike, who was the 2nd owner, was clearly an experienced rider. He had some beautiful vintage machines in his garage including a very sweet looking Ducati. My guess is that he worked too much and rode too little which is a sad way to go through life.

My purchase (an 07) was a similar situation as well, only I am the 5th owner. I was truly amazed when trying to track down the previous owners for the vehicle history and owners manual.

The common theme that I took from all of them was they purchased the bike, dumped about 500.00 bucks each in mods To personalize it and then realized right off the bat within 500 miles that the bike was too much for them and proceeded to dump it for whatever they could get out of it.. The 4th owner was a car lot up in Ankeny who sat on it for more than a year in their showroom. With all the tastefull modifications (Two Brothers slip ons, Corbin seat, laser detector, bar riser's) Plus brand new skins with only 3400 miles on the clock. I left the dealership with the feeling of just legally stealing this bike..

My guess is each one of those previous fellows purchased this as one of those midlife crisis deals, only to realize they just bought a death wish. from what I could gather during conversations, none of them had much riding experience.

I guess my mid-life crisis is still ongoing because I'm really liking my ZX-14 and find that it's one of the easiest riding bikes I have ever owned.

Jwh20, I absolutely without a doubt agree with you. I love this machine and kick myself for waiting as long as I have to purchase one.
That said, no way would I have respected its power and capabilities as much then (in my 20's), as I do now.. While in safe mode, mine was extremely docile and a true pleasure to kick around and ride. However much of its previous mannerisms that I took for granted have been removed from a recent flash. It's absolutely downright nasty now..
