An r6 makes a good track bike. I ride a 6r on the track and enjoy the hell out of it.

There's an old saying "it's more fun to ride a slow bike fast, than to ride a fast bike slow". At most tracks a 600 has no problem hanging with liter bikes and if it's a really tight course staying in front of them.

This is the place to buy a track bike from:
Your text to link here...

Building one from the ground up (converting a street to a track bike)
would be way more expensive. Buy something already set up and ready to take
the beating of track riding.

A 1000 cc is more difficult to ride fast around a track than the smaller bikes,
they are heavier, change direction slower, chew up tires and a handful in the wet or
on colder/worn tires. Parts to replace after a crash are also more expensive.

Mass, glad to see you're still checkin' in on the forum.
I was beginning to think you'd sold the lightest zx14 on the planet.

Buy a track bike @ $14,000 all setup for racing-used in AMA-never crashed.

Buy a used track bike from Mass - 7K with a tweaked front end that rides 'wallered' down the road. Crashed once!

Buy a good set of springs for the front and a shock for the rear; $1000 or less for the 14-tracker.

Buying from a squid thinking all those hot goodies are going to give some sort of return and I'd be selling most of them just to make the bike lighter than a 1000cc for 14K??? Do I look like I beat the drum slowly?

Whew, ain't that the truth! Especially when it comes to Hayabusas, and probably also 14s.

'07 Hayabusa presently.. mostly stock, few comfort mods.. fixed. As Willie says, "On The Road Again"..
'04 KDX 200 dirt bike, that I manage to hurt myself with on a regular basis
'09 KX250F for a bit of Motocross

I crashed my 10r a few years ago at Loudon and had GMD straighten the frame out.
Crashed it again a few months later and sold it "as is" to one of the guys on my local forums.

I bought my 08 gsxr 750 in the beginning of 2009 with only 1K on the odo in full street trim.
Converted it to a track only bike and wrecked it properly soon after that.
Straightened the frame at GMD and rebuilt it completely, rode on it this past season and wrecked it
again in Sept at NJMP. Now I have all the parts and need time to put them on and send the bike to be
measured at GMD again.

I average one major crash per season, few minor low slides in b/n also.
The parts for my 750 are dirt cheap, so are the gsxr 600 parts.
If I were crashing a zx10r or a R1 that often, I would probably be either broke or not riding.

Dogo, that 14 of mine will be cruising the Sunshine state sometime next week,
wouldn't sell her just yet.
I also have to get back to that build thread soon with all the updates.

Mass, thats what I like about my old 6r. Parts are cheap and the aftermarket is huge.

My reccomendation to anyone just getting into track days. Hit your local boards and pick up a used race bike, someone who races will upgrade every couple of years. You can usually pick one up thats already safety wired, has all the goodies including suspension upgrades and do it for 3K or less. The WERA racers around here usually move their bikes every couple of years for a real good price. I recently saw a TL1000 race ready for 3K and that included all the stock plastics to put it back on the street.

TrackDough ... You know, the lucky 13 says a street bike with low mileage needing a payment and you bail out the ride is flog the cheaper, [high dependability]; you buying a used crankshaft with fatigue written all over it spelled how you have insurance waiting you feeding that hole in the head, hole in the ground, whole thing smells like cutting the onion the other way it cooks better, tastes better you cut the meat against the grain the BBQ taste different... So I'm told.
