Help with the hook up of a power commander III on my 2006 zx14
04/05/12 7:02 PM

I have just purchased a power commander 3 for my 2006 zx14,
it is used and has zero manuals, i have hooked them up on several hayabusas,, so the question is which connector do i pig tail the power commander III on,, where is this connector located and what will i have to remove to get to it,,,
also i have purchased a set of scorpion slip ons that sound great but pop,, im hoping the pc III will fix that<<
any help / advice on directions and getting the correct maps would be greatly appreciated,,
thank you in advance

Welcome....the grey/orange main harness plug located just at your halfway point on the frame there(under the airbox area..grey harness with large plug(s))...unplug that. Now plug the PC into that, and the other into that other plug there.Connect your ground wire somewhere on the frame there....subframe small bolt works well...just file off the black paint there and connect with the small silver bolt.Go to the PC website....downloads...download either the map for your mod setup(pipes, air filter, secondaries either still in or removed)and that should do it.If you can't find your particular pipes...I'd download 'all' option to your computer.Stash it away in the Powercommander folder.

You already know how to upload to the powercommander, yes?Should be a cakewalk for ya.Good luck!

PC5 UNDERSEAT INSTALL IDT the PC3 can be placed underseat like the PC5 but you will get the idea of where the main wiring harness thst you hook into is located and what it looks like.

i have purchased a set of scorpion slip ons that sound great but pop,, im hoping the pc III will fix that<<
any help / advice on directions and getting the correct maps would be greatly appreciated,,

The PC prolly won't do a whole lot for that. It is caused by the PAIR system which burns your combustion byproducts up to reduce harmful emissions. Does not necessarily have to do with rich AFRs at all. My PC and map made for my bike and mods did not stop the popping (although i never ran it without the map so maybe it would have been even worse).

Block the PAIR and that will reduce the opps by about 1/3.
PAIR BLOCK MOD

if you like that and want something a little more serious...

Grn14,,
thanks for that answer,, what will i have to remove to get to the plug under the air-box,,, tank, air-box and all...? or can i reach it with JUST a seat removal like on the busa... ???
if i cant reach it without removal of things so is there a step by step on that work,,??
Thanks again all for all your response.. :))

PC5 UNDERSEAT INSTALL

click the PCV link above and that will take you to a how-too on installation. The wiring harnesses never changed so i imagine it is exactly the same as wiring a PC3. The tutorial also details what you need to remove to install. all that needs to come off is left side fairings.

this is what you disconnect. It is very difficult to take apart but have patients and pull a little at a time.

I use one of these bottle openers and it still is a real chore.

It's located here and that bracket screw on the subframe member above is a good place to ground. People often have trouble grounding on the radiator overflow bottle as directed in the installation instructions.

Really chat, it is all in the tutorial. Have a look at the pics at least.

I think chatvmax probably figured his quandary out. The hardest part is getting those damn plugs apart.

After fighting with that pita of a plug to get the pcIII hooked up, Chat will need a good set of boobies to look at to calm back down. That plug was one of the worst things I've had to fight on my 14!

......it beats the OEM brake line retaining rings on the front fender but not by much.
