Pillion ride position
03/27/21 8:18 AM

Wondering if anyone who takes their special lady out 2 up has lowered the pillion footpegs ?
Or raised the pillion seat some how.
My lady loves a decent trip away / day out but is finding the knee angle a little too much.
Yep, go on & tell me the jokes about why would you want to spoil a good trip etc
But I really enjoy riding alone or together
She never complains, even at a decent speed / angle, all day too
Loves it like me
Never wanted to ride herself.

Also I remember ages ago reading about the rear subframe not being the most substantial / strong as it could be ?
Not that either of us are BIG people
Thanx U guys.

As long as you have those lower rails on the tail frame, that should be strong enough for a 200 pound passenger. I don't think Kaw recommends that heavy of a passenger but I'm pretty sure they don't recommend a 200 lb rider either and most of us are about that heavy.

I have my tail frame rails removed and there's no way I would consider carrying more than 10 lbs back there now. Never heard of anyone bending the tail by carrying a passenger but I'm sure most people leave the support rails on the bike.

I'm guessing your wife is fairly tall ? My wife is 5'3" so she has plenty of room.
We use a Concourse seat for 2-up , I think it's got a bit more cushion. We've done
1500 mile trips with no issues. She finds the bike very comfortable. Not sure if there
are lower pegs you can use like off the Buell.

Yea, my lady is 5 ft 9, it’s not that the seat is uncomfortable just the angle of her knees is fairly acute
I’m going to try some dense foam to lift her up some
She’s been spoilt on the Multistrada to be honest
Be nice if I can get her as comfortable on the 14 tho

I have your remedy.

I added Concours lowering brackets and a taller seat, the 2015+ Concours Touring option seat. The Seat is about 2" taller than the stock ZX14 seat and the lowering brackets added another 2" down and 2" forward.
I had my Sister-in-law on the back and she is 5'9".

You could try any stock 2008+ Concours seat first. You just need to exchange the locking brackets from the Ninja seat to the Concours seat.
My old thread on the topic:

The Brackets thread: (motorcyclelarry.com the guy died and these brackets are not available. But there is another maker of something similar at https://www.advancedsporttouring.com/Passenger_Peg_Lowering_Brackets_p/c14-08.htm

http://zx14ninjaforum.com/messages.cfm?threadid=CF419C1F-1372-66AE-3B53EFE9FE2C728C&page=1&searchTerm=pegs#13

And you can add a Luggage Trunk Kit so she has something to lean against.
