trailer my zx 14
05/11/10 11:52 AM

I was wondering what size canyon dancers to purchase to hold down the z 14 on a trailer.

http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/1/4/76/13223/ITEM/Canyon-Dancer-Bar-Harness-II.aspx

I did a search but wasn't able to find anyone talking about what size they used.

Thanks

Neither, they tear your grips all to hell and you need to compress the hell out of the front to get the bike stable. I used one last year and it was a big pain in the ass. If you are using a wheel chock and have mounting points on each side of the chock just run the straps over the lower tree and into the mounting points. This pulls the bike into the wheel chock and keeps it stable. If you have the cash and can bolt something down get the pit bull trailer restraint. My buddy has one for his zx10 and it take him 2 minutes to load his bike mean while 15 minutes later I am still bitchin about the straps. LOL

I wouldn't recommend the canyon dancers either!

I don't recommend tying off on your handle bars.I think they'll break. You might want to make a t-bar that goes into the steering stem hole on top of the triple clamp.I hauled mine that way and it was easy to make.

Get the new style canyon dancers. They have plastic cups that slide over the ends of your bars instead of putting the pressure on your grips.

I dont recall seeing a size option? I ordered mine from Schnitz Racing.

Seeing as how my bike lives most of its life now on a trailer, and the grips haven't been hurt at all.. I'm a firm believe that they've fixed the canyon dancer design.

I have trailered my ZX quite a lot, and I have a 'strap' that goes over the bars with two loops on it to fix to the front, but it compresses the front suspension and this is obviously not ideal. The bad part is I also put tie downs through the back just under the seat on the bar that runs below the seat, and this is thin so it bends. Not too noticeable, but you can see it (and feel it) if you look closely. There is a new product in SA that goes on the footpegs or somewhere. I am not too sure, but I will look in the bike mag tonight and post the website. This apparently is THE way to do it, but I haven't seem them yet. Definitely worth looking into.

That bar that runs below the seat is part of the sub frame you might want to get that replaced and have the mounting points checked out.

I removed that bar from my bike.. LOL

You don't have to tie the back of the bike down. I use a strap on my rear wheel pulling backwards just to keep the bike from moving side to side.

Compressing the front end is not the end of the world. Mine STAYS on the trailer, strapped down, ALOT. And its FINE.

If you're that worried about it, ride it instead of trailering it. Problem solved

Thanks for the comments. Looks like I will be in a open trailer with a front wheel chock secured to the trailer. Some canyon dancers and tie downs for the triple tree. Seen some pic of others doing that. If not. I will be riding her

Here's my track 750- the front is in a wheel chock and I run ratcheting straps on each side
through the subframe (the race subframe makes it easier), just one on each side is all it needs
but I sometimes put a second through the rear sets. I try to compress the forks as little as possible
and will not use anything near my throttle tube and clutch lever/ cable

I'll be loading my bike up this weekend, i'll take pictures. I ratchet mine down til its almost hitting the front fender. Once again, NEVER had a problem.

I have the canyon dancer hooked up to my clip-ons. I've probably towed it about 600 miles so far. Works great, and easy to hook up.

Wow I was thinking about using my GTI to tow my bike to local trackdays using a light weight trailer. Have you had any problems towing with the Jetta also what hitch did you buy?

I have KENDON DUAL STAND UP MOTORCYCLE TRAILER and it is the best trailer I've ever owned and the only one I would ever recommend to anyone. I thought I was going to use it for long trips so I could take a buddy with me but we ride every where we go so it's use is for taking my bikes to and from the shop in bad weather. They don't take up a lot of space and you can stand them up and put them away garage. I don't have any photo's of my bike on the trailer or a photo trailer but here is the info. for you if you need.

Phone: (714) 630-7144
Toll-Free: (800) 847-8618
Fax: (714) 630-7132
E-Mail: info@kendonusa.com
www.kendonusa.com

They run for about $1,999.00 - $2,300.00. Oh the only thing about the trailer is that the wheel chock is too big for the 14 so you have to have cut the back of the chock or put a piece of wood or a piece of rubber in front of the chock so the lower fairings don't hit the bike. I tie the bikes down with tie down socks they work great!

Good luck to all that's my two cents.

My jetta pulls well, however, I would not recommend it for at gti (but I haven't driven one). I have the TDI model, and the additional torque really helps, and the car pulls right in its torque band at freeway speeds. I don't know that the gti would have enough low end torque.
