So... I have heard that it is possible, but I can't seem to find a build thread, or anyone with first hand knowledge on it. Does anyone know anything?

Give it a few hours and I am pretty sure you will get a couple 14r owners who will suggest you forget about it. I had the same notion but I recall from a past thread that someone (Grn, I think) said there are a whole bunch of new fasteners that will not line up the the old frame. It may be close but I bet you would have to fab some adapters to make it work. If you can do that I would consider marketing that item. Kawi probably made the new fairings not transfer between the gens so we have to buy a new bike even just for the appearance update. Also, if you ride really fast, you will have to be guinea pig to test how well the Gen 2 fairings cling to the gen one.

"I know the engine can be swapped"...you mean like from an 06 on up to the 2011(s)?The 2012's and on won't fit the earlier frames.Nor will an earlier model engine fit in the late models. They changed several engineering aspects on the late models...I COULD be wrong....I haven't actually tried it...but I do know the new motors are taller and the fitment under the airbox IS different.Visibly.The frame has been tweaked as well to accomodate the change in frontend performance(design) and engine fitment. The swingarm has been changed as well.So I don't know if the pivot shaft is in the same place as before. It might be?....I know...not much help for ya.

I've been watching Brocks Installation videos for his exhaust systems, and the mounting points look fairly close.
Watch how the 2nd gen's side panel hangs up until he takes the rubber booty buggy bumper off the inner side fairing and it pops off.
First Gen '06 to '011 = Interchange any panel and/or plastic(s).
How far can you go with swapping a 1st gen to a 2nd gen = All Tail Sections-Seats-Front fender-Cear fairing.
What will not fit = Nose-Side panels-Grills (obviously)
Grn, I'm going to guess the hidden word and my guess it says, 'panels' as in body?

"Grn, I'm going to guess the hidden word and my guess it says, 'panels' as in body?"yes...correcto;)
"the mounting points look fairly close"...they may 'look' close...UNTIL....you try to match em up with an install....and that's what matters...being off by several millimeters is enough to make things...."not fit".The Body's like a jigsaw puzzle on these bikes as you guys know.Lots of people first assumed that the two generations were basically interchangeable...parts wise and all. They're not.Maybe bearings...wheels..stuff like that would interchange...but the bodywork is different between the two. They won't switch back and forth...and fit correctly.Try putting the 2012 rear cowl onto an earlier model....it won't fit...even though it looks VERY similar.Lots of 'subtle' differences between these two bikes.I'm not sayin the rear brake cluster won't fit right...it probably would...but the styling on the other body panels IS different. All the cowling has been redesigned to fit a 'bigger' bike. How much bigger? Not much....but enough.

Oopseas, I forgot.
Gas tank = Fits Gen-1 and 2.
Try putting the 2012 rear cowl onto an earlier model....it won't fit...even though it looks VERY similar.
Grn, I grabbed my '08 seat and installed it before taking any rear tail parts off on the gen2. I don't think they changed the tail section when they changed the frame? That says tank to seat to tail = No change.
being off by several millimeters is enough to make things...."not fit".
Details or you are distorting one more shortened bunch of info into 3 pages of waste. Bring forth the mm or I bringithe clown suit. You already have your shoes and trousers on with the frame to engine change and 100% off base. Are you about to bat 100 again, you without mm?
Now, does the tank to seat to tail interchange yes or no? If not, show us the mm change back there? Make me the clown so I wear the top half.

LOL...I can see where this is going.I think he wants to interchange body panels...maybe a fuel tank....IDK...but trying to use 2012 and up Panels will not fit his 06.You might get lucky with a total Tail Section replacement...but the cowl will not fit an earlier model...or vice versa. One look at the styling will tell ya that...I don't need to be a expert on this stuff....You might get the lower rear fin to fit any year...but I don't think he's too concerned about that. What I'm reading is ..."I want to make my 06 LOOK like a 2012" or whatever.I suppose you could rig er up...but like Rook said...I wouldn't be to keen about riding above 65 mphLOL!!!!I guess if you NEED to be right here...okay...you're right;)The rear lower fin will fit...and the tank...that'll fit also;)Seat...yup...fits.Be cheaper though just to sell the 06 and make a nice payment on a new Ninja14R....????????
"Unless you can specifically point to where that mm is?"I'll try...how about where the front lenses fit up.Try installing your 06 lens into the cowl;)...or the exhaust(full) from an 06 into a 2012 header....Maybe the instrument panel would slip in there somehow.Mount that baby right on up....use the 06 inside uppers fairings to get that custom matching style;)I don't know if 'reach around' would be appropriate here now...but you best have some buckaroos to get yer 06 to "look" like a 2012;)
I don't know how closely you've looked at the fitment tabs(I have) and such on the 14R....the brackets...all that.Try installing those on an 06 frame. And having it actually fit and be fine looking.YOU could remove your tank cover brackets there and see if they match an 06's.Then fit that bodywork onto yer 06...I guess if gaps don't bother ya...she ought to be good to go?

With a little tooling and a complete swap with all body parts and brackets the gen 2 shit will fit like it was meant to be one the gen 1. The engine will fit too even though its bigger, it hangs lower. Bam fits. True story.
We have a bar stock and/or flat stock winner! BAM!
We have a full suited clown w/out a mm to be had.
