Is this normal?
02/01/10 7:27 AM

A little question about my headlights here.

The pictures left headlight sticks out way more than the right one, is this easy to fix? Or is this something that's pretty much normal...?

Picture from the side with the glass sticking out some:

And a question on the side: Having to use the throttle some to ignite the engine, this normal?

Thanks as always!

no for the Throttle issue you should be able to crank the bike and have it idle properly without any throttle input. The headlights.. well they should be the same but that’s just Kaw build quality. Don't drive yourself crazy trying to get the body work to line up right (assuming the headlights are in right). Get on the bike and hammer on some open road I promise you will forget about the build quality.

ok was this bike down before looks like the lights might not be mounted in all the way on one side (its a pain to take it off but your lights may be out of ajustment as well . As for the starting first check the battery if it is not 100% cool then you need to charge it ,and I dont mean it starts the bike so it is cool ,it needs to be showing 11.9 to 12.4 while its sitting in the on position. ok second it may be the idle setting look on the left side of the bike just in front of the pegs and you'll see a silver knob thats for setting the idle(it just hangs there pointing to the ground looks out of place but thats how it is) check your idle, crank on that knob just a lil to see if it starts eeasyier after you messed with it then if no go there you might need to check the freeplay of the throttle as this has a lot to do with it as well.If the bike is running and you rotate it forward and the idle changes you need to adjust freeplay if none of those things work you may need to have the butt head that sold the bike to you abjust the zero setting for the throttle you may be able to do this yourself if you look at the service manual that we have on here ... but you'll have to read I havent needed that section yet
Oh for the lights an easy way to look into the fairings is to pull the dash covers and pull the wind screen you may see whats going on in that fairing. My light are evenly surfaceed look at the bike from the rear Too to see if everything is straight man I hope its just abjustments you need to do take a look and let us know ...xxxses

The light doesn't look too unusual to me. The lights just aren't perfectly flush and nobody will notice that except for you.

I think your starting trouble will go away with a dose of injector cleaner. Maybe you will have to run a couple treatments. I use a little Sea Foam injector cleaner/fuel stabilizer about every other time I fill the gas tank. If the bike is idling at 1100 rpm when it is warm, you don't need to adjust the idle speed nob. If you do adjust it, I would do that when the motor is warmed up and running.

Ya-hope ya get it sorted out.Mine are flush with the cowl.Yours doesn't look off to me-well maybe just a bit sticking out there. There should be a spacer/holder behind the lamp assembly-a couple of bolts there(four?)(NOT the ADJUSTERS).You could check behind there, maybe remove the bracket bolts around the lamp and install a couple of washers in front of the bracket, try to bring that lamp back some.If ya look on a parts fiche say, on cheapcycleparts.com,look up yer model and year-choose headlight(lamp)assembly or upper cowl assembly, you will see the diagram shows the rectangle shaped bracket I'm talking about.Just follow those steps(pictures of parts) in the diagram to remove the lamp assembly and check it.Don't know if it's just me or what, but looking at your one straight-on pic of the left lens-looks like it was scraped across it-(the low lens).Somebody replace a lamp assembly on your bike there? The lamp assembly WILL come apart just behind the lenses-there's some plastic clips that hold the front of the lenses to the body of the lamp assembly-HOWEVER-they DO NOT come apart unless you (crazy it sounds I know)heat the whole assembly evenly and soften up the "cement" that is used along with the plastic clips(molded into the outer lens piece)Only someone trying to install "angel eyes" lamp mods or "halos" would know about that trick(has to be done in an oven). If they pulled the unit apart, maybe they didn't get it back together all the way. ...See those tabs on there-NOT the clips, the "bolt" tabs.If you pull that assembly out and install some spacer washers in front of those bolt brackets(measure how much you need to bring it back flush, then install washers),your lamp assembly should come back flush with your bodywork.Hope this helps! You "MAY" have to remove your upper cowl assembly from the bike-maybe.But I'd first try and see if I could get to those bracket bolts from inside the upper cowl before pulling the whole cowl off.Might be tricky gettin in there with a socket? You don't want to break anything-those bracket tabs WILL snap if yer not real careful with em.I KNOW you can remove the upper cowl and easily get to em...it's just alot more time consuming-but doable.IF...you do decide to pull the upper cowl-the nose has a small bolt holding the inner upper fairing in there(that shovel shaped piece above the fender). That bolt has to come out,or you'll never get the cowl to slide forward! It's right at the very tip of the nose-underneath there.I'm curious though-WHY is it not sitting flush in there, while the other seems just fine? You don't suppose MAYBE the cowl is slightly warped right there?Just a thought. But washers will definitely correct the fitment deal.

Hey everyone,

Thanks for the replies! I'am gonna leave the lights for now, since it doesnt seem like a big issue in the end ...

I think your starting trouble will go away with a dose of injector cleaner. Maybe you will have to run a couple treatments. I use a little Sea Foam injector cleaner/fuel stabilizer about every other time I fill the gas tank.

What's this about though? The Injector Cleaner? So this smoothes out the igniting?

Since when i grab some gas while pressing the igniter, it does go on, but without it doesnt work too well.

Btw, my fuel is very low, could that also have to do with it..??

Can someone explain me about the Injector Cleaning?? *clueless*

Thanks!!
