Exhaust headers and tuning
05/15/17 4:02 PM

This is my 3rd 14R. Ive had a 2012, a 2014 then traded the 2014 in on a 2016 H2. One year later bought a used 2013 SE. What can i say, I love the zx14r.
Anyway, has anyone tuned and dynoed a full exhaust system vs a factory header with slipons only? Is there much if any true hp difference at the wheel?

you'd think people would use that setup for racing if it was competitive with a full system. There are dyno graphs of online that show the difference if you trust them. Most are probably from people who sell the exhaust.

Although I never dynoed my '12 when it was stock, it made 212 whp after an Akra header, TBR slipons, and an ECU flash. So, probably around a 20hp gain, but most of that I would think is the flash. My riding buddy with the same bike but with a Brocks 4-1 and the same flash made 215 whp on the same dyno.

I didn't do any comparison testing. But, when I bought the '14 BBW and was trying to figure out what to replace the worlds biggest and ugliest mufflers with I talked to a few tuners. Both told me that a full system would yield 3-5 Hp more than slip-on's. I'm not racing anything so I went with Yosh slip's just incase the smog cop nazi's in SoCal wrote me a ticket for "racing" exhaust and I had to put her back to the pumpkin chuckers.

I did a test when i first got my 2012 Green zx14r.. My 2nd 2013 blk/green zx14r made similar numbers with brocks 20 inch alien head, brocks ecu flash and pc5 map. sightly modified by rickey gadson.

Finally got bike maintenance done. Bascially 15k service done at 21k. Here's my results.
History for reference, Bike setup at 7900 miles dyno done on 2/13
Brocks pair block off, two brothers slip ons,two brothers db1 sound tips, flys removed, stock gearing, stock wheel base, pc5 with custom map, pilot rd 3 with 300 miles on them: Here's the dyno chart:
200hp 113-114 Trq doesn't show afr but tuned to 13.1-13.5
w
2nd dyno done 4/14, 21k miles, bike setup same as above with following additions:
Romans flash no pc5, streched 10 inches, pilot rd3 with about 13k on them, full tune up andd valves just done,
Dyno results: 198hp 114-115 Trq doesn't show afr but is 13.1- 13.5

As you can see. This bike makes anywhere from 195-210hp with just bolts and and full system with whatever setup you chose. As seen from many dyno charts posted. What it doesn't capture is the difference in what a flash makes with how it feels in the lower 1-4 gears. I can tell you for a fact its neutered in the lower 4 gears. With Romans flash its a totally different bike in that range. Like brocks says..Stupid fast.
Its says dyno tuning on chart. No real changes done. just the way I marked chart.
Im so happy with it. I've put over 2k miles on bike since flash. Its a beast.
Thanks Romans. .

Top peak horse power was pretty close, biggest diffrence i felt was the diffrence in the pull and throttle response in the mid range area from 3k - 7k flash vs stock. Im on my3rd zx14r, 2 have had over 22k miles in less than 2 years of riding each....LOL..3rd one has 2k on new motor after rebuild 2 months ago
