Pulser Cover Screws
03/06/11 10:20 PM

I got a busted pulsed cover, adjuster missed it and I found it just today. There are 7 6x20 mm screws holding the cover on but one, the top center one carries a different part number from the other six and was locktited. Odd, there must be a reason, I'm thinking dia-magnetic screw in the top hole to prevent interference with the pulser but why locktite on the one screw? Can somebody check their manual....Hub?

Thanks!

This is just a wild ass guess but that bolt hole may go all the way thru so to keep oil seepage from going around the threads and leaking on the cover there will be a sealant of some king used to prevent it.

Unless this is unique to first year, mine spin off without any locker-agent on the threads. All the bolts are same size. The one part number would be the locking-agent bolt having a different part #.

Though I may have or may not have noticed the locker bolt on removal, I would guess along with, lytnin, until further inquiry. My cover does not leak or weep out that top bolt [without] the locking-agent.

I just made sure the that top center screw went back in the same hole. When I was done for the day I looked it up on line and sure enough it is a different P/N even though the same length, diameter and pitch. Manual gives no instruction on this huh? Material must be different, why else would KMC do it?

Blue07, didn't you have to replace that pulser cover when you dropped yours on the right side? I am starting to wonder if this is only the Gen1. Hub you say all of your Gen2 screws are the same in the parts book?

Ok hub, I reread your post, factory applied locker or sealant. Maybe Lytnin's right, stops oil leakage.

Yes, book runs a circle with a capital L inside that designates, 'locker-agent this bolt only.' If you look where the position of that one bolt is > In a water jacket < So lets seal this area with a dab of yang-0-seal-0-bonda-spitage.

Huummmm...interesting...never noticed that.I thought they were all the same as well.I didn't put any locking stuff on mine.No leaks....Good point Hub...about that water jacket.I guess mine's okay...never seen anything dripping or coming out at that bolt.No moisture inside my cover either.Bolt tips on removal dry as can be...no oil or moisture on the threads.

I really can't say, blue. My guess is the bolt being in position but not through the jacket. After all, this is a 'service cover' for valve adjustments. Last thing you want to do is pull that locker and out comes coolant. Maybe it is more to be the one bolt to hold cover in case the others loosen?

Ya..I just snug em down and call it good.I know that bolt installs right at the midfairing, belly fairing seam.Perhaps they don't want that one working it's way out and somehow cracking that piece.I'm "reaching" now LOL!!!!!I think they say in there to remove the upper fairing to access the cover.I never do.I just get my 1/4 inch extension, and slide the socket up under that edge there, and tighten straight in.If ya push upwards too hard to get that bolt straight, that fairing does want to crack...I can tell.So far,so good though.
