new 2013 zx-14r - exhaust question
03/22/15 7:07 AM

Hi Guys,

New guy from Syracuse NY. I just picked up a new 2013 yesterday. It has zero miles and of course I'm already thinking about mods. I've had a 2000 ZX-12 with a pipe and nitrous and a 2003 ZRX12.

I'm a bit older now (just turned 50) and I'm looking for a good exhaust compromise. I'm trying to balance between performance and how loud it is. I'm not into slipons...full systems are my bag.

I had a Yosh pipe on my 12 and I really liked it. The newer designs of pipe (i.e. megaphone) intrigue me but I don't want to have a bike the cops can hear from a mile away.

I've been really eyeing the Yosh r77 system, but I keep switching my focus to the M10 and Brocks setup. I'm not a dragger but I want the best perf for my $.

I've searched both this site and others related to zx-14r discussions for my below question.

What's your opinion on performance vs noise on pipes?

Just in my opinion for lower sound and great performance check out akrapovic. The 4-2-1 and the 4-2-2 will fit the gen2 zx.

If you need a price on a Brocks system let me know...
And if you need a combo price on exhaust and CBLAST flash I can do that also.

Brother I have the R-77 single sided Stainless/Carbon Fiber. It'll drop around 22 lbs from the bike. If you want to use the baffle insert/not +/- 1lb. Sometimes running it up the rpm range especially when their tall curbs or I'm leaned over it literally sounds like God's trumpets. It is a sweet sweet sweet note. I don't know how much performance it added, but it's definitely not any slower.

The best thing is you don't even have to do anything with the Fuel mapping. Don't need a stupid PCV, don't need a Guhls flash or whatever. The only products I would recommend, unless you have significant other modifications in mind is either a CBlast or Romans flash. As to which, you'll have to decide between the two. Myself, I'm a CBlast fan, you see that's the flash I have (just got the ECU back actually).

If your looking for a mellow tone and quality pipe, you can't go wrong with a yoshi. Had one on my old 1200 Bandit.

The Yosh have a pretty nice tonal deep idle too. Then at high rpm they scream. Just recently I heard the longer version Brock's CT single and wow! What are a sexy exhaust note. When pulling under load its was just wicked and yet below 4-5k just idling around it was very deep and not loud at all. Probably that would be an exhaust I could ride and really love on a daily basis.

Hi C!

Btw Jfccac... man I used to dream about a 12R. Oh man I'd almost get one if I didn't love my 14R so much. If you have some pics please be sure to post them (of your 14R too).

Thanx for the information guys.

I need to take a peek at the longer version of Brocks CT.

I thought Cblast's tune involved fuel mapping?

Noone has any thoughts on the Muzzy...is it that loud?

Yes absolutely J, fueling is mapped and adjusted for the exhaust directly in the flash, no need for a pcv. And the Muzzy M-10 is an excellent exhaust set-up, but she is fairly loud. If sound level is a concern, that is. The M-10 performs fantastic and sounds excellent, sound level doesn't bother me, but it is louder than most. I personally love it.

I have the Yosh R-77 stainless with carbon. It looks gorgeous and is the best sounding pipe I have ever owned. Deep and menacing without being too loud. The sound is never obnoxious and is quite pleasing even on long rides. You wont be disappointed!

You could of course save $ and just go with slipons ... got these at 58cycle for $640: http://store.58cycle.com/product_p/muzzy-slip-dual-oval-zx14-12.htm

I just purchased a new 2015 myself and have been wrestling with which slip on to buy. I have narrowed it down to Vance and Hines CS one, the Yosh R77, Delkevich tri oval or the Muzzy. Was wondering how loud the muzzy is compared to the others? I like a deep tone but nothing obnoxiously loud though. Any help or vids would be appreciated.
