Delkevic slip-ons
10/02/19 4:56 PM

I put a set of Delkevic slip-ons in place of the huge factory pipes, and left the baffles in. I read somewhere (can't remember where) that the baffles restricted the horsepower, and that I need to remove the baffles. Anyone know anything about this? All info/comments will be welcome. Thanks, Mike.

I go the Delkevic Ovals. They were way too quiet with the baffles in and it wouldn't surprise me if they did hurt the HP. They are plenty quiet and sound great with the baffles out.

Baffles restrict the flow and probably do cut some power at max rpms, take em out for track days

Here is how I look at a speed event. Say the speed of sound, or the speed of light is an event. I'd apply that theory as having an arm out of the window of a speeding car. I could see a palm up position is in that pipe and is restricting the speed of flow out of that pipe. By removing the baffle, the speed event made the crank move faster. This will cause the event to cycle the strokes sooner.

The Good the Bad and the Ugly:
1. As mentioned, baffles out is a GOOD way to use this extra HP for top speed closed course kind of riding.
2. The change in pressure hurts low rpm grunt for the street so this is BAD for darting from fenders anshit.
3. Doing yourself a disfavor if street is mostly the riding area and UGLY; for neighbors and fuz will rebel.

I have had the Delkevic slip-on carbon fiber mufflers, in the longest length they offer them in, on my 2017 ZX-14R for almost 4000 km = 1400 miles. I have run them with and without the baffles. Honestly, I cannot detect any difference in power, but they sound better (to me) at low rpm (3000 rpm) WITH the baffles in.

With or without baffles, there is no way these slip-ons are going to offend anyone. They are pretty quiet either way.

OK, guys, thanks for the input. I'll probably just leave well enough alone and keep the baffles in.
