Veteran's Day
11/12/11 12:43 AM

To all my fellow vets: God bless, Godspeed, and so many thanks! I look at my little girl and my lovely wife and thank the Big Guy that better men than I took my place on the wall.

And for those who are deployed, Take care of your troops and watch their six. They're watching yours. Take it to the goblins and remember the golden rule... We ALL go home at the end of the patrol.

Ogre, did you serve during Vietnam? I ask because of your reference to the Wall.

I've got friends on the Wall, I can't go near the damn thing without making a fool of myself, so I don't go anymore.

Privateer,
No, I speak of the proverbial wall the good guys stand watch on to keep the bad guys away. My dad and father in law both served in Vietnam. I've been to the Wall once. One of the most powerful experiences of my life. I'm not a big "feelings" or emotional person, but one can't help but feel down in his gut the sorrow of the place.

Thanks for standing your turn on the wall.

I too am a rather stoical person, lacking much emotion, not affected by much. Some of that is PTSD.

But if I get within sight of the Wall (like when I rode down with the Legion Riders last year) I can't keep the tears in.

Yesterday, area restaurants gave free meals to serving military and veterans. The usual "old guys" (tm) showed up, but there were a number of recently seperated, young, veterans partaking too. And some female vets, with small children.

Until you actually look at it, I mean really look at what they are doing for us today, and what they've done for us in the past, you can't even begin to understand the courage and heroism and blood its taken to get us to the point where a black man can be President of the United States and kids can occupy Wall Street without being rounded up and shot dead.

I don't like where we are economically, or politically, or socially, but its a darn sight better than what it would have been without the many sacrifices made by American soldiers.
