Took off the Area P's and...
03/25/10 2:40 PM

...put the stock exhaust back on as it was too loud for my tastes.

I bought the 07 ZX from the original over the weekend and it came with new Area P Carbon Fiber Slip On's... 2.5 inch.

On the ride home from CT back to Albany, NY, I had ear plugs in as I usually do on the highway. Today, I took the ZX for a short (70 mile) ride and I decided to take the slip ons off and put the stock mufflers back on.

Button everything down, start it up, and... quiet, just like my 08 ZX was. Wait... what's that coming out of the right pipe? Insulation! Goose the throttle some and more flies out! After a few minutes of getting the pipes warm, I shut it down to tighten up the bolts. Start the bike back up and a little more insulation flies out, accompanied with a dead mouse / critter smell. Grrroooosssss! :(~

Oh well, whatever it was has been in there for a while and the smell will take a while to go away.... I hope!

Anyway, anyone know how to quiet down an Area P slip on? I found the receipt for them and they were $795 new!

Great Day!
John

You need to find out if the slips have had the quiet inserts removed.Replacing them would quiet down your baby big time.

Or you could take the easy route and stuff some more rodents in them!!1

Quiet Inserts... are these parts you can buy or would I have to buy a new set of slip ons?

Thanks!

A variety of perforated cores are used depending on the application. In most cases, Area P uses 2.0", 2.25", or 2.50" sizes with a specific design spec percentage of staggered perforations. This assures maximum flow, and maximum attenuation of sound. Sighting down the inlet of an Area P exhaust, you will notice no deviations or impediments to flow. It?s a straight shot out to the exit for maximum performance. Applications are intended for racing/off road use only as sound levels are increased and do not meet EPA/CARB limits. All cores are packed using the worlds best high quality muffler packing; Silent Sport Premium.

I just found this online.Looks to me that these pipes have no options for quiet inserts like the yoshis do!!
They are more of a straight pipe design.Posibly new packing would quiet them down.hope this helps

I have AP's (18"/2.25 cores) on my '07. Never heard of any quiet inserts for them, though it's been 2 years since I bought mine and they may make something now.
I agree some would find them too loud but I like 'em. They were sort of a compromise as I always liked meg's but the typical meg is just too loud for me. I had to get rid of the huge bazooka stockers and the AP's are a good product.
