BST RIDE FAST CLUB
02/01/13 5:10 PM

I don't know what did it, maybe it was Somefun's pics, maybe Darryle's or the Galfer wave rear rotor seating on that blue wheel Rook posted. Maybe the inception took place the first time I saw Mass's ZX-14, or maybe I hit my head harder than I thought when I high sided. I'm not sure but the only thing that matters is that I have a set of BST's on the way!
I'm so exited that I started to buy parts to fix the bike out of my own pocket: The insurance is waiting for the shop so they can compare estimates but I just couldn't wait so right after purchasing the BST's, I hopped on ronayers.com LOL
They are a few other really nice upgrades I will be doing to the bike. Nothing crazy, but for the sake of suspense I won't tell until its done LOL. I like reading the Performance Bikes section in which rider talk about 10 years old bike with crazy up to dates bolt ons so that's the look I'm going for.

I know a lot of purists are going to yell: Blasphemy because after all those costs a pretty penny. Some others might say it's over kill and to those I say, the ZX-14 in stock form is over kill so... I may as well go waist deep.
It wasn't hard for me to cough up the cash because I was already saving for the Beemer. Also I had a MK2 shock, GPR Damper and a few other goodies for it. Items that I returned and was able to get a full refund toward the BST's.
I found and decent deal for $3599 plus $299 for ceramic bearings and a discount for those mysterious items mentioned earlier. After my high side I realized I couldn't afford two pretty bikes. I made a deal with the wife: I would finish "moding" the 14 and get a cheap ($3000-6000) track bike. Something I will trash on and off the track and hone my skills on so that I can enjoy riding my soon to be sublime 14 at a faster pace while being safer.

I'm expecting the wheels the beginning of the week after next so please if you're part of the BST RIDE FAST CLUB or other sexy wheel club lol post a pic of your wheels so that the days go by faster.

P.S. I should have a couple of items for sale in a about a week: Including my GOPRO HERO2 and of course BROWN RIMS

If you have a scal drag, get the weights.

Rims only. No sprocket nuts no rotor bolts. Nothing that can be replaced with other aftermarket stuff,

Rear brake disk carrier.

Valve stems.

There's an endless variety of sprockets and rotors combinations but weigh those separately too.

I don't have a good scale but I'll see what I can do. For the GOPRO2 I'll Pm you before I put it on sale.

Green my best riding is done when I don't have the GPPRO. It seems that I try too hard when it's on! I'll try to get more footage when I get the black edition
What wheels are you going with?

If you check Shane's build thread on his GenI 14, it has the weights of the rims and the carriers. IDK if he got as particular as to weigh them without valve stems and sprocket nuts and rotor bolts. For $4000, I sure would!

There are a few different widths of BST that can be used too, I believe. Any info on that or am I mistaken?

I would have burned my costume a while back if I could be you LOL
I'm trying though. I'm waiting on the shop estimate and if the insurance can write me a check I can order the rest of the parts and finish the bike just before track tactics track day at NOLA in March. I should have been there last week for the super bowl and Mardi Gras. Too bad!

Yeah Rook, it's a lot of $$ but I'm more interested in the way the bike will feel and handle. I was looking at the Marchesini Forged Magnesium and almost changed my order but after doing some research I found out CF was better/stronger/lighter. The only downside is that when it fails, there are often no visible signs on the surface. I will weight them just for you though!

The wait is over, got a box from Brock's Performance this morning:

I wanted to take some good shots but I'm just too busy today...

front wheel was made in November 2012, rear June 2012

darn it the nuts are the same color of the new EK Chain, I'm looking for titanium bolt for the rotors and after I get the rest of my mods and tools, I'm getting it if I have enough money. I need an intervention LOL

Thanks Kofla! I'm exited as I haven't been back home in a while but I'm bummed Eloisa (my 14) won't go with me. We have some breathtaking scenery in the south, then you have the Swiss Alps, Italy, Spain, all those country within reach. Try to make it down there, once of this days. You will love it.

Perhaps there's a set of BST's in my future...if they can get the ABS/KTRC rings fitment on those?I love the simplicity of the BST's...very minimal for cleaning.

Rook's Tri-R's are a tough act to follow....very nice rims.

Drag I’m excited for you! I had and still have the dreaded modding disease for sure! But if you but the BST then you have to go with Galfer Wave Rotors with HH Pads and titanium bolts! LOL It would be like using old rusty bolts on a new ported head….Or old sprockets on that nice new chain! Lol
No worries man you got it and you got it bad like me! But embrace it and that first ride will make it all worth it! Hey remember admitting your F’d up it the first step to recovery….But I will say it has not worked for me yet.
This winter has been killing me but so far the list of mods was a short one as there isn’t much I haven’t done. I sent out the front and rear suspension and had it all rebuilt, new EBC HH pads rear and EBC extreme HH front for even more bite. The since I added the 30HP shot of NOS for the top speed run I felt guilty adding some weight so I swapped out the front pinch bolts, brake pad bolts and engine bolts with titanium. I also removed that black anodized clutch cover because it was about twice as heavy so the stock one. Now I should be right about the same weight or maybe even a little less when the bottles are not on the bike. (I only really want to spray her if she pauses at 190) Other than that I don’t plane on using it.

Hey Drag that EK three D what the deal with it? I had never seen one but just got an e mail on one. I'm running the EK ZZZ right now but getting ready to throw on new running gear for this season. Tires, chain and sprockets....
It looked like from what I rear (very little) that is was the same weight and strength as the zzz and was $100.00 more? Am I missing something? Is that a Renthal rear you bought?

Yeah Renthal rear sprocket and chain. I think the Renthal Chain is considerably heavier than the stock DID or the EK's and I really like the look of the 3D. To be honest, I don' think there is a lot of difference between the 3D and the one you have. It seems that their marketing campaign is based on looks and I must admit that it's working on me! They are claiming a 1% power increase on the dyno but I think it's hype. You could get the same kind of result by just replacing a worn chain or adjusting it correctly LOL If I didn't have a chain already, I would have bought it though. Still thinking about it, now I know what I will do if I found $270 on the street. LOL

But if you but the BST then you have to go with Galfer Wave Rotors with HH Pads and titanium bolts! LOL It would be like using old rusty bolts on a new ported head….Or old sprockets on that nice new chain! Lol

LOL, yeah I'm all over that I'm waiting for my Braketech Axis Cobra Full Floating Beauties. Galfer wave in the rear. I will get Ti bolt from Pro Bold not for weight saving but just because I like the look of Ti

Hopefully they will be here this week!

They should come in a big box with these
(weigh in at 1000 grams and come with Brembo road/track pads) and a few other mods.

Then I'm sending the ECU for a reflash and when I get it back all I should have left to do is install
(they are claiming 1-5% but I know better)
and
the new shiny fairing and bring the bike along with a short Velocity Stack to the dyno
After that, the only things I'm changing on the bike are filter and oil unless you can convince me I should get the shift star and that the Ohlins Fork will match the Brembo Calipers better. If Ohlins comes out with a 30mm kit for the 1st generation 14, all best are off LOL

I can't wait to see how the bike will handle and deliver power. My Geelong Hugger, the CT duals, Gilles CF heel plate and shogun frame sliders (if I decide to go with the same I had) are going to look awesome with the BST's.
LOL

I think my 14 has definitely earned the R and I'm ready to turn the page. When I return from my summer vacation this fall I'm looking into getting a 2007-up used liter. Probably a blue and white gixer. That one will get a little bit more than bolts ons!

Not yet, I'm hoping to receive them this upcoming week. The Brembo photo was taken from the OPP racing website. They are indeed light but for the $$ they better be. I have heard mixed feelings about the Brembos but I think it's because people buy the cheaper version (under a $1000) and expect them to be way better than OEM. Also as far as braking goes we are spoiled with the 14. The stock Nissin are awesome. The GP4RX are actually used in World Superbike and are just a step down from the monoblocks used in Moto GP (which are double the price). IMO best bang for the money is the Brembo RCS 19. That master cylinder push way more fluid with more leverage and better feel and you can switch between 19x18 and 19x20 and it comes with a brake light switch. $305 at motomummy. Just like you, I want to do some LSR event in the near future, so if I can shed some LBS and improve on braking etc I'm with it. If you wanna go all out... Get the brembo calipers, the master cylinder and the Braketech CMC rotors. The rotors material come from classified stealth bomber technology and they weigh in at just a little over 1lbs. With that set up on your bike, you're going to do 200mph on one wheel LOL

They come with ceramic pads. I read that they don't improve braking power by much but help a lot with change of direction etc. Basically they have the qualities of Iron and SS rotors with non of their shortcomings!

I would leave the rear alone as far as calipers. There is just one but you could always remove it!
The CMC are out Click
