Anyone else have the Rf 1200? I just bought one today but only got up to 50 mph and rode for about 20 minutes. Seems much quieter than my old scorpion. Can see better, seems like more field of vision and felt comfortable. Only had cheaper helmets in past. What you guys think of them? Just curious.

rf-1100 here. Yeah, I can see out of it well. Never seemed to slice the wind as good as my cheaper helmets. Not exceptionally lightweight nor is it quiet. For the price, I expected more to tell you the truth.

Take it from someone who has tried them all: you are not paying for the name, you are paying for the features it offers. I love the quietness offered by the RF1200 but it does not fit my needs. Still love it just don't wear it anymore.

rf-1100

That helmet has almost certainly expired.

Had an RF1100 and thought it was great until I got a GT - Air. Thats the best helmet out there for my head. Plus that flip down visor is so nice....

I could replace it but it would probably be a $30 cheapie. Might as well stick with the expired one.

As long as it smells ok, I drink milk past the expiration date.

Milk past the expiration date can make you sick if you choose to drink it. A helmet past its expiration date won't protect you no matter what you choose if a crash where it is needed happens.

Those expiration dates are based on mostly use. Until a helmet is used, unless it's being stored improperly (not in a climate controlled environment) conditions it's not experiencing wear and tear. There may be some question as to when a helmet should be replaced. I'd guess somewhere around 50k-100k (100k miles = 2000 hours * 50 mph), depending on conditions and care. If you only ride once a week for an hour, the helmet would probably be fine for 10 years.

If you participate in track activities they may have rules on helmet dates.

I'd guess there are a couple reasons helmets have expiration dates. One is to protect the manufacturer from lawsuits. The other is to increase sales as most people would probably look at purchasing another helmet once their helmets expired even if it's only been lightly used.

Racing... they check the dates.
Trackdays... not so much.

At least that's been my experience here.
I've participated in events with about a dozen trackday providers, and only one has checked my lid.
The club I race with checks ours first race of season... and again if/when we crash.

All of my helmets (x-12's) will "expire" sometime next year and therefore no longer be usable for racing... but being that a couple them are essentially still brand new, I will still use them for trackdays and street rides... but I won't drink milk past its expiration... GROSS!

I know when coaches are teching people in at my events they check dates. I see them do it.

Hopefully, they are just taking the opportunity to educate... turning a student away just because his prize lid has "expired" would not be a good way to bring "new" riders into our sport.
