Need advise from those with flashing experience
12/07/16 7:25 PM

Hi. I am new to the forum.I have a 2016 ZX-14r and I've been looking into getting the ECU flashed. Not wanting to touch my factory ECU, I ordered one on Ebay (looked for a couple months before one finally popped up for sale). When I got it, I realized it was the CA version (21175-1124)and I have a 49 state bike with the -1123 ECU.

Here is my question... since I intended to reflash it anyway, can the CA emissions programming be removed so that it will work in my bike without any issues or a CEL on? Or should I return it and keep looking?

Contact Nels at 2Wheel Dynoworks in Kirkland, WA. He just flashed mine, and can give you the info you need.

One of the issues with the 16+ 14Rs is the new ECU. It is not compatible with the 12-15s, and requires a flash file that is completely different than the previous gens. Nels has worked out all of the issues with the new '16 bike.

Thanks for the info! Yeah, I think that's why it took me so long to even find a spare '16 ECU. It's the only year so far for that part number and the 2016s are too new to have a bunch of them in junkyards!

I did plug it into my bike and it seemed to run fine but the CEL was on.

Congrats on the '16 model. Keep us posted on how she's running on the newly installed ECU.

Thanks! I actually got the bike at the end of June and she's about to hit the 4000 mile mark. My previous bike was a cruiser (Yamaha Road Star 1700) and ironically, I would rather spend the day on this one. It's as comfortable as it is fast!
