Thinking of getting a 2006, how much should I pay?
02/09/13 11:15 PM

Hello,

I looking for a zx14 but they all seem to be priced high.. I found a stock 06 w/ 2k miles listed for $7500 at a ducati dealer. Now NADA says retail should be ~5400-7300 and KBB said trade in is ~4400 and retail 6400. Now I know dealers use NADA so Im thinking of offering low $6000 OTD then hopefully meet at $6500, that would be like giving them 6k+tax and about ~150 left over for title fees. worst they can say is no.. cant imagine they paid more than 5k maybe at most 5500 for it. and i'm pretty sure they have sat on this one for a bit. what you think?

I'm only asking about $1500 off their sticker. And im about 85% sure they have sat on this for at least a 2-3 months, going off memory of seeing the add before and that the grass and trees are bright green still.

Kevin, that looks like a clean bike. Go in with the $6000 initial offer, gauge their response. I used to sell cars a long time ago, first rule, never let a cash customer walk without doing everything you can to put him in a vehicle. They want to move this bike, especially if it's stale merchandise.

If they laugh, tell them you can do the $6500 but only after they make you a counter offer.

If you really want it , $7000 drive out would be my top dollar and that's only if the bike is near showroom condition.

See if you can see some service records, that's almost seven years, regular oil changes? What about tires, I would want fresh rubber, maybe they'll throw in a new pair to sweeten the deal.

You came to the right place, I have that exact same bike with all the right mods, they are fast!

Thanks for your help! my top dollar is 6500 cash OTD, (maybe stretch another 100), even that forces me to put $1000 on credit from my pops. as for service records, unless i read it wrong it only has 2000 miles. doubt it had any service. Hey your from Dallas? I live in Allen. I'm sure you've noticed some of the ridiculous prices dealers around here want for they're bikes!

Bought mine for about $7k and they threw in a $280 leather jacket. Tell them $6500 tops and walk away. Give them your number and when they come to their senses they may give you a call.

Yes in Dallas, I have a couple buddies that work as salesmen at a multiline dealership, they tell me used bikes are in short supply and they can move them much quicker than new ones. New is starting to get pricey due to strong Yen and a weak dollar. New 14Rs are about $15,000 drive out.

I would be leery if the oil has never been changed in seven years. I'd definitely have them throw in an oil/filter change if they can't prove when it was last changed.

Good call on the old oil... will look into that

15k? that's crazy. At "Kawasaki city Irving" left over 2012 14r are 13,700 OTD and 10r are 12,300 OTD. heck they have a "used" 2012 10r w/ 400 miles for 10,300 OTD.

The dealer that has this 2006 also has a 2012 14r for 10,500+ttl so they cant expect me to pay only a few grand less than a 6 year newer 2nd generation bike!!?!?

I agree. $6000, 6500 is a good price. If they don't sell to you, prolly still be there in a couple months.

. $100 job at the dealership. I'd just ask for 5 qts of Kawa oil and a filter. $40 value. You will not want to be going back to the dealer to have this simple job done 5-10 x/year.

oh aboard.

If not like you guys said Ill give them my numder and when they "come to their senses" i'll be ready. if not there's other fish in the sea

Good idea. I think 6000-6500 is a good deal for both party. That bike look clean for sure. I hope you get it. Like Kruz said try to get them to change the oil and filter before you leave the place, especially if you can't get it for less than $6500. LOL Actually tell them if they won't do it, you're going to set shop on their parking lot and do it there LOL I don't think that would be good publicity for a Ducati dealership LOL If you got the original oil in there, I wouldn't want to run it through the motor. I wouldn't even start it... I would flush it cold.

I was seriously going to do this at the dealership after I did my break in runs with the busa. The owner ended up delivering the bike in a pickup truck for free. I still ended up changing oil myself and that is not so easy with a busa.

Well Its a no go.... consignment bike and I guess the owner doesn't really care to sell the bike.. Hes a British guy who spend half the time here and half there and lets it sit at the dealer while hes across the pond...

I hate Consignment so much. I wish dealers would state consign on their adds. Especially guys like this that just waste peoples time, I even asked, "How serious does guy want to sell? I got $6500 otd in my pocket." the dealer said hes not really in a hurry to sell...
