My insurance spiked 80%
07/11/16 5:50 PM

So my renewal is in September and I received the quote. My jaw dropped. I've been with state farm for over 25 years and my record is clean. I was paying 1350 a year full coverage. It jumped to 2390. Is this normal. Are these people on crack. I live in Ontario Canada. Any advice on insurance companies would be much appreciated.

$735 full coverage with Progressive. It may seem reasonable but the ZX-14 by itself actually costs more than full coverage for my 2015 C-14 Concours, 2014 Rocket 3 Roadster, 2012 H-D Fat Bob and 1984 Honda V-65 Sabre combined...

Hate paying so much but I LOVE my ZX-14! Collision is the major factor on the policy. The guy at Progressive said they feel that if you have an accident on a ZX-14, it will be a total loss and they price the policy accordingly.

Wow! I don't know if you have Met Life there but if you do check them out. I pay $1050 a year full coverage. State Farm quoted me $1700

Will be having that conversation with her tomorrow. I have all my insurance with them. All my vehicles and house comes to 6500 a year. That would suck for them to lose every year. We'll at least I'm hoping they see that.

I have state farm in indiana. insurance went down from last year $490 to I think $410.

jeepster that's just insurance. just time to shop around. i'm sure they have rhymes and reasons, probably had an increase in claims for motorcycles/sport bikes in your area or something. Also keep in mind latest studies are showing older riders are having a preponderance of accidents and deaths although as a % of riders younger sport bike riders are much higher risk.

Spoke to my broker and they told me there was nothing they could do for me. Fucking bullshit. I lost it on her and told her they will be losing all my business. I guess its time to start shopping around.

I've been with State Farm for 45 years. My insurance just went down $3.17 a month. It costs me $289 a year now for full coverage. In some ways it pays to be old (61).

I think a person's location and driving record are the keys to get lower insurance. I'm one year younger than you, live in the city of Philadelphia, have a clean record and I was paying over $1000 dollars a year full coverage.

I think you're right about location, and of course driving record. I live in Bismarck, ND which has about 60,000 people, a fraction of the population of Philadelphia. The more populated, the more chance of an accident or theft.
What do you think of your new rookie quarterback for the Eagles, Carson Wentz? He's a North Dakota product. He's big, strong, and can run. Sorry though, I'm still a Vikings fan. By the way, nice picture!

Wow I thought I was getting ripped at 450 a year for full coverage especially after my sons CBR929 was stolen but hasn't gone up. 51 and living in SC must help out a lot.

No offense to any Philly fans reading this, but all Philadelphia sports teams suck! Besides, I'm a NY Giants fan!

Now I'm scared. I too am with state farm and also live in Toronto Canada. I also pay 1350. Per Bike.

I recently got a notice telling me Certas bought out State Farm and my rates were going to change. And true to there word changes were made but I Can Not for the life of me understand the billing. I meant to call and find out but got busy and this slipped my mind,,,,, until now. Thank you for the reminder.

At the local bike night thursday (Leslie and Lake shore) the All State Agent was passing out business cards. He was telling us all that AllState is the cheapest in the business for motorcycles and ATVs etc. Time for me to make the call and find out.

Grrrr I hate this crap. As a loyal customer I should get the best rates but nope. I have shop around.

I live just outside of Calgary and switched a while ago to Allstate, can't remember the exact price but they were by far the least expensive insurer for the zx14 that I could find and the coverage "perks" they give were way better than my previous insurance company (ie, accident forgiveness).

They also gave additional discounts if you have the SPC card (which I did through my work). Knock on wood, I haven't had to actually put a claim in with them but at least on paper the policy is good and the agent was very helpful and willing to work with me (previous insurance company posted claims against me for just talking to them on the phone).

I've found that it doesn't matter how long you've been with a company, even if you have had no claims, if they change the way they rate the risk you will get hit with a big increase. That amount is INSANE! I'm currently paying $148/year on my 08. I use an independent agent and anytime there is an increase he shops my business and finds the best deal.

Ok so shopped around for insurance and tried Allstate and they were competitive but not as cheap as TD Insurance. If I bring all my vehicles and house i will be paying 988 a year with full coverage. Better than paying 2390. Spoke to my State Farm agent and she told me State Farm got bought out by Dejardins and that Desjardins didn't want anything to do with bikes and that's why the prices are so high. That's fine if you don't want the motorcycle business but your going to lose a lot of customers with car insurance. You should try Td Roman bet you'll get a great rate.

Putting what you pay for insurance is useless unless you put
up coverage and limits.

I just renewed my insurance, I do not carry collision or under/uninsured.

I renewed with Progressive for the year was $313

I'm always looking for a better deal though.

I have been told that changes in credit rating, and amount of payouts for similar vehicle types in a local area rising, can have an effect on insurance premiums. Who really knows though. Is like black magic to me!!
