goin back to A zx14r, is a left over 2013 a bad idea??
01/01/17 5:12 PM

well I had 2 diferent zx14's for a total of 7 years and went to the dark side and bought a 2016 gsx s1000 thought it would be a great bike but I just miss my z waay too much!! so I found a 2013 brand new from a dealer for 11,900 do you guys think its bad idea to buy one that's already 4 years old but brand new. ,,? I like it better than the newer ones because of the polished looking rims and its cheaper of course. let me know any input would be appreciated, I don't really care about the tires I usually don't keep the stockers long anyway.oh and I have haggled with the dealer for 2 days already and they will NOT budge any more than 11,900

Does not seem like a deal to me unless that's OTD with the additional 4 yr warranty thrown in too. I think that's about what I paid in the end of 2014 for a new '14 ZX14R ABS

After you put a few K miles on it whats a 4 yr old 14R worth? $6-7K?

$10,195.00 when purchased from a dealer = KBB. Trade in 7k. Somewhere in between. For a few grand more while searching other dealers, you might walk away with a 2016 in the 12's. That 2013 is way too much... walk away.

Offer him 10.5K out-the-door. I think that would be a good deal for a brand new 2013 14R.

sometimes dealers must get rid of old stocks, before Japan sends them the new models...
got my 2013 zx-14 last September, with a nice discount, Ohlins shock abs, racing exhaust, free service, Taichi jacket and Kawi helmet...
you may try to convince your dealer to be more generous

I'd say Google search ZX14R leftovers and see what comes up. You didn't say where you are or how far you'd be willing to travel. I bought a 2015 at the end of August from a dealer in Lansing MI for $11,609 out the door. In my search I had found quite a few. A dealer in Rockingham NC was selling 15's for $10,999 and 16's for $11,500 but required you to be on premises to sign papers. Be aware when I checked in August DynoJet still hadn't developed a PCV for the 2016 model. They told me "they expect" to have one available in early 2017 but weren't sure. Good luck with your search. Aloha, Rick B...

Prices are very market specific. With lots of supply and not much demand, prices push down.

Market forces here keep prices high, even on used. Any decent used 14r is retailing for about the 10K+ range. New more like 15K +, even for leftovers. New model year is closer to the 17K MSRP. Part of this is exchange forces with the currency, part is limited supply, part is just how expensive it is to live here on the west coast of Canada where I am. I'm envious of the pricing reported here. I just bought a very lightly used 2012 for $9750 CAD + tax, best I can do in this market.

In the end, I could have bought new but, it's hard to argue with paying 1/2 for the same essential bike with very few kilometers and not a mark on it.

Congrats to the OP on the new purchase. Enjoy it. All I can do is look at mine, as there is 6' of snow outside. If you can ride, go!

Speedy congrats on the new bike. IMO you definitely made the right call. I have a '13, and IIRC paid just a few hundred more than the dealer you found in early '14 (as a left over). Mechanically I wouldn't have any particular concerns, but book value is where it hurts. I agree with others, somewhere around US$10k would've been the buying price for the '13.

A couple things to consider. '13s ABS was still a factory option, so not all '13s were equipped with it. '16s ABS is standard, so if you wanted ABS you definitely got it. '16s lost a small amount of power compared to '12-'15s. My guess is someone will really only notice this on the dyno, most likely a professional rider would still get the same types of acceleration numbers for a stock/OE bike in the 1/4.

Since you got the SE, it should have the Brembo front brake kit. Standard Nissin stuff is really good, but the Brembo calipers are a little lighter and rotors are a little thicker than standard units and that's always a good thing. Brembo stuff is a little more blingy which is definitely nice. In '13, SE basically meant a paint scheme as there were no other differences between the standard and SE models.

thanks victhing im sure happy with it so far, I was a little worried about the matte finish but it doesn't seem that bad. already put 2 brothers carbon fiber slip-ons and carbon fiber heel guards tinted windscreen just stuff I had kept from my last zx14, im glad I kept it, I think I knew I would be goin back to one, the best bike made in my opinion! ridin something different for just 10 months sure made me appreciate this bike.

I just upgraded my '08 for a used '13 with 2400 miles with an Alien Head exaust, some tastfull mods, and all the original parts. $8500 from a private seller - well maintained, but never ridden. Like you, I looked at some dealer leftovers and they all started at a seemingly fair price until they started adding dealer set up, freight costs, etc etc. $3000 for a warranty is a bit much in my opinion - it's a Jap bike - what could go wrong? Good luck with your search.

My dealer here in Ohio has 2017 for 11,999 - obviously not OTD price, but just for what its worth.

Also, this past December i purchased a used 2013 with 1,200 miles completely stock for 7,000.

Nothing wrong with the leftovers as long as its a long term hold. After a few miles its just a 4 yr old bike and a 6R will be worth more.

Some good catches here....Where I am supply is low, incomes are high and so are prices. These things are holding value well because there are few of them and they are pretty much top kick right now, even at as much as 5 years old. My 10 year old Gixxer Thou, if I were to stock it out and sell it, could still pull 7K here. I only paid 11 for it new, in early '08.
