Hi All,
Are the gen 1 and gen 2 lower side fairings interchangeable? While I'm here, does anyone have a set of perfect black lowers for a 2016 14r?

The part number for the 2010 lower is 55028. The 2016 is also 55028 and the M.S. Black is $160. Looks like you might not be able to order both sides from the same supplier or maybe both sides are not available anymore.
If you're picky, I'm pretty sure not all the blacks are the same black. Some might have more or different colored metal flake or they're a slightly different color. Some are mat black.
Check Ebay for some with normal wear. Look at the pics closely and check for broken tabs. The used fairings I ordered from Ebay were in decent shape. Some were scratched up but a good polishing with 3M Scratch a Swirl remover will bring them back to like new condition. At worst, they'll need a coat of clear first.

Hmmmm I had a look and I see what you mean. You better wait for someone else to chime in. Business is mighty slow right now. I think everyone's out riding. Try PMing Hub. He will know the answer to your query.

I have a feeling the Gen2 and Gen 1 lowers are the same except for one small detail. There's plenty of people around here who have owned both the Gen1 and the Gen2 so they should know this. I think I remember Grn14 talking about it.

Buy used Gen1 lowers off of Ebay. The tabs should fit the Gen2 side fairings, the two lower bolt holes should match up to the brackets attached to the oil pan. If they do, the three small bolt holes along the top of the Gen1 lower should be concealed by the Gen2 side fairing. Then you have to figure out how to get them the color you want. This is going to cost as much as brand new lowers by the time you're done.
Never tried it but seems like it should work.

You're welcome.
here's the two fairings. The '07'(gen 1)does not have the inner metal connecting bracket(s)that screw into the midfairing. The 2016 DOES have those.Maybe the 07 'could work'.The 07 had wellnuts connecting the fairings.(those three hole tabs).Wheras the 2016 has the three hole tabs, but they integrate with the midfairing's 'projections'inside the fairing seam.
2007
2016
I would just buy the 2016 fairing(s)and call it good.No idea if the 2006 holes would line up with the 2016 projections.Plus ya have those pesky fitment tabs at the screws inside the 2016's(brackets).
I'm guessing maybe they added those after watching videos of lower and midfairings coming apart at the drags!lol.
