1st valve check.
01/19/11 5:58 PM

After 52,000 miles and 4+ years I finally got it done. All of them needed shiming but otherwise good.I need to replace the tensioner also which is sitting in the box.Might notice a little more power!!!
And I know what you guys are going to say"Why didn't you get them done earlier?"As long as your not racing the piss out of it why worry!!

Busa is the same way. People report having them checked at 30,000+ miles, and maybe needing to shim one valve, sometimes none.
Sounds like the 14 motor is the same style of overbuilt.

Nope, not really. I'm at 25,500 and still have yet to have a look. I'm going to do it when it gets warm enough out in the garage. recently , I was told the cold will not allow for accurate measure of clearance so It'll have to wait until April, I guess. Good to know there will probably be nothing major to adjust.

All true valves are quite precise from the factory and inherently stable. Checked mine at 27K and all good. I rotate the engine to check for the loosest spot and if the feeler goes thru at any spot I call it good.

Did you have any mech problems while you were racking up those miles? You must be ridin' the hell outta that bike with the short season up there in WY.

I saw a green 14 a few days ago here in Boulder. That wasn't you was it?

I haven't had any mech problems since I've owned it.The only thing I dealt with was a bad ECU last year. And I haven't ridden any of my sportbikes since I hit that deer in Sept.

LOL ....actually I was kind of thinking why do them at all? At 52,000 miles if the engine still runs good it'll prolly run another 52,000.

My VTX1300C service manual calls for 8000 mile valve adjustments. I did the first one at 10,500, all day job and haven't touched 'em since, now have over 27,000 miles. May take a peak at 'em this summer...or may be not....

Checked mine at 10,000 and no issues. I'm getting ready to do it again at 25,000 since I have to rip the bike half apart anyhow to replace the spark plugs. It probably isn't necessary but since you're in there anyhow...

just done mine and 13 were out of spec in 19235 miles, only by a thou or two, but have set them to upper limit so hopefully won't have to check for another 20000 miles
