oil viscosity

Gearing up for the Texas heat, went to buy oil for my beast. Looks like 10-40W is a dying breed. Do you guys think that 0-40W will do any harm?

Been running Mobil 0W-40 since the first change and my clock shows 30,000 miles.

Are you saying 10w40 is getting difficult to obtain over there? Still plenty of choice with 10w40 over here. Never used anything else personally.

Plenty of 10-40 available on the east coast.

I only looked in Walmart. They have good prices - about $27 for 5 quarts of full synthetic (I know not to get one with friction-reducing additives). Probably could have found the 10-40W if I went around to the auto parts stores. Looks like no one is freaking out at me using the 0-40W. I'm going to give it a try - thanks guys.

It's 0W-40 not 0-40W. The W = winter, so the oil is thin at start when its cold

Per the Service Manual 10W-40 is good up to 104 deg F, above that use 10W-50 or 20W-50.

I would run 20w50 in the Texas heat. I think wally world carries quicksilver 20w50 full syn M/C oil for a pretty good deal. And its BIA approved!
